Blathering idiot talk radio host.

There is serious construction on the bridge that I have to take to work everyday…so my commute is somewhat longer. To pass the time…I channel surf even more on the radio rather than just listen to NPR all the way home.

We have a local talk radio screamer by the name of Jim Fisher. This cretin is slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun in his politics. His hero is Pat Buchanan. Rush is not conservative enough for him. (no kidding)

Anywho…he was blathering about a Dominos pizza delivery guy who got fired.

Story here.

Fisher was ranting about how this honest patriotic guy was fired by Dominos for “free speech”. He was saying that this was the FIRST time he had heard of anyone being fired for expressing an opinion about the war…and of COURSE had to be a pro war fella.

Two items that Fisher blew it on (and “forgot” to mention)

First…poor Mr. McKillop knew he could get himself into trouble with his actions…he was not surprised or outraged at his firing

Secondly…while I’m not aware of some anti war dude being fired for similar actions…apparently Fisher has already forgotten this?

My wish is that Fisher and the anti war idiot who chained himself to the wrong building in Seattle…get chained together…with a constipated Michael Moore.

Come on now, we all have a constitutional right to work for Domino’s.

 I agree with beagledave!

I wonder how Fisher would feel about some pimply-faced tennager pounding on his door to give him an anti- war lecture.

I think the kid actually showed some class and some remorse about what he did. I also think that Dominoes would have fired an employee who had espoused an opposite viewpoint. It’s not a political thing for them, they just want to sell pizzas. If some kid, say, burned a flag while wearing a Dominoes uniform you can bet he would be fired ASAP. Free speech doesn’t enter into it. They just don’t want to give the impression that they are endorsing a specific viewpoint.

From the story:

Some people never do grow up. I wonder if it was a typo?

Whoops, I got my names mixed up. The girl he lectured was 17, for some reason I got it into my head that the driver was 17. A 58 year old should really, really know better.

[hijack]

I always thought idiots were blithering, not blathering. Are they the same? Could a blithering idiot be blathering on about something? What if the village had two idiots, would one be the blithering idiot and one be the blathering idiot? Would they have little Olympic events like the 100 word blather or Pole Blithering, to determine which one retains the title of Village Idiot? If you had two idiots, one blathering and one blithering, but only one bullet in your gun, which would you shoot?

[/hijack]

Sorry for the hijack, it’s just something that’s been blothering me for awhile.

We’ll yer an idjit.

But you like the Pack…so it’s all jake.

If Gillette and Old Spice got together, would they produce Old Norse Blathra?

Aren’t all talk radio hosts blathering/blithering idiots?

Besides, aren’t the owners of the Domino corporation very conservative Catholics?

Tom Monaghan sold the corp several years ago FWIW.

He’s now starting up an orthodox Catholic college in Florida.

Ah. Yeah, I heard about the college.

This reminds me of one of my favorite mantras:

Give pizza a chance

Hasn’t this guy heard the saying, “opinions are bad for business?”

I try not to rant about this too often, but the DJ’s claim of violation of “free speech” is one of the most overused, misused arguments in the world.

Dominoes isn’t the fucking government, you moron. They are perfectly free to set standards of conduct. If they had a delivery guy who said “I hate Muslims” every time he delivered, they could shitcan him. It’s not a violation of free speech.

God, bullshit First Amendment claims bother me. It happens fairly often on this message board, too. If there isn’t government action, it’s not going to be a First Amendment violation. You might not like what the company did or think the employee’s message was just keen. But if you drag bullshit First Amendment arguments into it, you cheapen the First Amendment. I’m not hopeful that my public service message will help, but I had to get that off my chest. I thank you for your indulgence.
