[tangent] Slim Pickens was a friend of my grandfather’s. I did not realize this when I first saw the film when I was very young, and I must say that extra bit of knowledge really enhances my enjoyment of the film. Slim was a fascinating fellow and quite progressive for an old hollywood western fixture. [/tangent]
Some good ideas, but somewhere in those nine flabby minutes is a really great three minute short. The whole story could be told with no narration at all with nothing more than superimposed text identifying each “event”. Nine minutes is an eternity on YouTube. The first lesson any editor has to learn is to brutally cut favorite bits. As Thelma Schoonmaker said, you have to be prepared to “kill your children”.

It’s a hard lesson to learn, made easier with the promise of DVD extras and “Director’s Editions”.
I wasn’t so concerned about the length, but i definitely thought the narration detracted from it; i agree that text would have been more effective.
Thinking more about it, it could work very well as a parody news program summary of the election season. Take the graphics and bumpers of a real news overview, and drop in the “Blazing Saddles” bits.
