Bleh! Chocolate French Fries!

Yesterday, I was doing my weekly grocery shopping and was shocked to see chocolate french fries hiding out between the shoestrings and the steak fries in the freezer.
I did a double take, because I was sure I had misread the package. Nope, it wasn’t a mistake…they’re real.

But why? I mean, I like french fries, and I like chocolate but I cannot fathom combining the two. That’s just gross. What do you eat them with? Hamburgers? Are they ‘dessert’ french fries to be eaten with ice cream? I wouldn’t squeeze Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup on my french fries, would anyone? I just don’t get it. I can picture some kid with a plate of brown french fries swimming in green ketchup. Urp. :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s next? Peas and carrots in a light chocolate sauce? How about a green bean casserole with chocolate and marshmallows?

What do you guys think? Have you seen them in your grocer’s freezer? Would you buy them for your kids?

Rose

My aunt would. I personally think it’s gross. We were out to lunch the other day and were splitting an order of fries and she talked me into sharing a dessert that had chocolate syrup drizzled over it. After we were both done with the dessert, she took several of the left over french fries and scrapped them along the left over chocolate sauce. Blech!

She said it was one of her favourite combos when she was growing up. She’d order a hot fudge sundae and an order of fries.

Is it bad that I opened the thread 'cause I thought it sounded tasty?

Everyone dips thier fries in thier Frosty whaen they go to Wendy’s though.

Don’t they?

My brother would probably dip his fries in ice cream and things of that nature, but doesn’t everyone? This thread reminds me of a time when around 20 or more of our friends went to Red Robin’s. We ordered a few Mudd Pies[sup]TM[/sup], plus lots of fries. Pretty soon, when the desserts were done, in went all the fries. Tasted quite good, actually.

But as for chocolate French fries? I don’t know about that one!

And another thing: If they can have chocolate milk, why can’t they have chocolate hamburgers?

As for chocolate fries…bleh. Besides, think of the mess they’d make of your skillet.

I used to love dipping my fries in a chocolate milkshake duing cafeteria lunches at school. It’s actually quite a tasty combination.

fries that are sky-blue, flavored with sour cream and chives, and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar???

Hurl-o-rama!

I opened this expecting it to be about something your husband said.

Hey Wicky, want some truffles? They’d go good with your chocolate fries and chocolate steak.

I’ve had the cocoa crispers. They taste kinda bland with a slight powdery sweet cocoa taste. I’d rather have a milkshake and fries.
The cinnamon sugar ones are pretty tasty though.

Yup, I’m a sucker. I like to blame it on the kid

Golly, I wonder why Americans keep on getting fatter and more diabetic?

Cinnamon sugar french fries? With sour cream and chives? Ew.

The chocolate french fries don’t sound much better, but I do love dipping my fries in milkshakes. One local fast food place uses a yummy seasoning salt for their fries, thus making the combination of fry and milkshake all that much yummier. Spicy and sweet…yummm.

I can totally get dipping french fries in chocolate shakes, although I admit I didn’t think of that when I made the OP.

I think that while french fries dipped into a chocolate shake or ice cream are tasty, they’re tasty because of the contrast between hot-n-salty and cold-n-sweet. Chocolate flavored french fries are missing that contrast, and I can’t imagine why they would taste good. Hot, sweet and salty? Are they only sweet and hot, without the salt?
See? Either combination is far inferior to the hot-n-salty + cold+sweet combo.
In conclusion, I still think they’re gross.

Do you ever eat a baked potato with sour cream and chives? Not a big stretch to add sour cream and chives to your fries.

Dipping Wendy’s fries into sour cream is yum-o-licious!

Ever had chocolate covered potato chips? Those are awesome. That sweet and saltiness go well together.

I had heard about the chocolate fries a while back. Pretty freaky to me. I don’t think it would be all that good. Greasy fries and chocolate. Hmmmm. I might try it if they were fresh made fries, not frozen.

Ugh.

On a related note, I have seen marshmallow french fries. You can buy this and other stomach-turning products at www.stupid.com.

I know this because a friend purchased…wait for it…Toilet Bowl Lipgloss from this site. I don’t want to be cliche and start ranting about signs of the coming apocalypse or anything, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Ugh.

I don’t think it’s so much the sour cream & chives that we have the issue with - it’s the cinammon and SUGAR they’re adding to the recipe.

dry heaves

EEEEEEWWW!!! NO! A thousand times NO!!

Yes but to then add cinnamon and sugar is revolting.

All of you fries in the milkshakes people out there are seriously worrying me, btw. :::shudder:::

Other offerings in the new line of youth-oriented Ore-Ida frozen potato products called “Funky Fries” include fries that are sky-blue, flavored with sour cream and chives, and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

I think one of the problems here is that it sounds like there’s a french fry that is blue, flavored with sour cream and chives AND sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar; a hideous combination, to be sure.

However, I’m pretty sure they’re three different kinds. I’ve seen the cinnamon/sugar ones in my freezer, along with the chocolate. I really don’t think they’d combine sour cream, chives, sugar and cinnamon. I think the press release was poorly-worded.

And no, I wouldn’t buy them. Thankfully, my four-year-old said EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW when she saw them.

Ooooohhhhhhh!!! Now I GET IT!
