Blinded By The Light

How do the Manfred Mann lyrics compare to Bruce Springsteen’s? Are they simply a subset of the original verses? Did they change or add any verses? And last, that timeless question, are they singing “cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night”? Or, did they tweek with these words a little because it SURE don’t sound like “cut loose…” to me!

After all these years, what’s the skinny on this one? Perhaps it ranks up there with those ever-evasive Who’s “Who Are You” lyrics? - Jinx

I was pondering the Springsteen/Manfred Mann connection. They covered “Spirit In The Night” before “Blinded” and then “For You” in 1980.

What was the connection?

I don’t know all the lyrics in either/both versions of the song, but I do seem to recall Cecil doing a column on the “cut loose like a deuce” line…

Yep. The Master speaks. So, I guess the lyrics were changed in the Manfred Mann version to “wrapped up like a deuce.” Either way, I still enjoy listening to the song. It always seems to be on the radio for some reason…maybe it’s just me.
