Blizzard!

I also laugh at one to three inches… what I don’t laugh at it the possible freezing rain that is predicted to (possibly) follow it. Freezing rain is a bitch to remove from cars… and my car’s out of the shop now (at a cost of $879).

Yep, Persephone, I’m down here in cozy A[sup]2[/sup], insulated from most lake-effect snow by two hundred miles of land on the west and Detroit on the right, but unfortunately not insulated from these crazy fiscal liberals.

Perhaps we need a mid-Michigan Dopefest. I know CrankyAsAnOldMan works at the University here, as do I.

Damn straight. However, I don’t think Ann Arbor does a good job with plowing and street clearing. My coworkers who live outside the city (in smaller surrounding towns) indicate that they are always doing great on the commute on snowy days until they hit Ann Arbor–then the roads are crap.

I took our CR-V out Monday night (the SUV for people who don’t like SUVs) and was being utterly obnoxious about it.

struuter…I grew up in Kearney. Whereabouts are you (what are the odds this is my mom I’m writing to? Except she doesn’t make tortilla soup)?

A toast! To the snowplow drivers, up at all hours, doing their jobs in the snow and the cold, so we can get around safely.

Holy crikey. I’m in Hastings. (You’re laughin’ out loud now, aren’t you Cranky?)
Unless you’re at my house doing dishes, you’re not my daughter either.

Now, isn’t that a pip?

Check out this thread, Cranky

And now I have to stop laughing; Ann Arbor’s been upgraded to a snow advisory, 3 to 6 inches. My original hometown (Toledo) is going to get at least 8. Lucky them!

We have at least a foot of snow on the ground in our part of Southwest Missouri. My husband works about six blocks away from here, and he may need to walk home. At least it’s not far:).
If this weather doesn’t let up soon, my son and I will have the house decorated for Chistmas to the point of lunacy. We keep thinking up projects to keep him busy.
When my husband gets home, I’m going to leave him in charge of the baby for a while, and get outside with my big kid. Once I’m cold and wet and uncomfortable, maybe my cabin fever will abate.

It’s been snowing all day, but this is the pretty stuff, with sparkles in it. Actual flakes, the kind with pretty shapes (of which no two are alike, remember?).

I’d love to toast them, but my street still hasn’t been plowed. Not their fault, though. The mayor tells 'em where to go & when. He apparently hasn’t sent them here yet.

I went to a funeral this afternoon. My cousin drove me home from the post-funeral festivities (yes, it was festive–this was a fun guy whose life we were celebrating–but I digress). She had to drop me off at the corner of my street, because my street is so sucky. I only live a block & a half from said corner, but damn, it was cold!

Jeez you Americans get all the good weather, don’t you. Yesterday in the warehouse here it was 42 degrees.

Of course, that’s 42 degrees Celsius or almost 108F. Anybody for a chorus of White Christmas?

Monday morning, and i am getting out of work, and go to the grocery stopre because i need to get some stuff for lunches, and the grocery store is packed, everybody is out buying food, before the roads get really bad.
Monday night while it was snowing, and the roads were empty, i went to work, i was one of two people to show up for the midnight shift.
Come Tuesday morning, i look outside, and see vast heaps of snow. i had stayed over, because several CNA’s were unable to get to work.
By the time i get home it is noon, and i am wiped, school was closed, so now the twins are trying to kill each other.
i tell them to knock it off, and am ignored. i go and wash my uniform, and order pizza. Wednesday we find Northwest Indiana had gotten 14 inches of snow, and we are supposed to get more snow later this week.

** I hate snow!! I hate winter! and i especially hate the windchill and lake-effect snow! **

Well here in Muncie it’s not really a blizzard we have about 6" or so of snow on the ground. The only problem I have is that it is frickin’ cold outside! It honestly wouldn’t be that bad if the people at Old Navy didn’t screw me over by making cheap products that don’t rip at the seams after 3 weeks of use. But I digress it was my fault for buying a coat from there store…

I’ll refrain from gloating about living in Florida. I won’t mention that it’s supposed to get into the 80s today. I won’t snicker or chortle, and I most certainly will not guffaw.
In fact, I have a snow shovel from when I lived in Virginia - anybody want it? Hardly ever used…

[sub]Dang, I wish someone would turn on the a/c. It’s stuffy in here… [/sub]

Hello to all you Michigander’s. I feel your pain.

My daughter, Missy lives in Bath (near East Lansing), formerly in Flint and Grand Blanc, and my brother lives in Westland. I’'ve heard about all the snow and lovely weather you have had. Missy said yesterday that she had 19 inches of snow in Bath and they were expecting another 6 inches. I said “cool, that will make you an even 2 feet” to which she relied “F**k you”. Yes she loves me.

Compared to that, the weather in SW Ohio is almost balmy, except for the ice the wind and the cold. It’s currently about 25 degrees on my beautiful snow-covered deck.

Well let’s see, we had about 3 inches of snow, rain for about an hour yesterday and the temperature dropped into the teens last night. I picked my car up from the shop yesterday after having the brakes done. When I got up this morning it was encased in about 1/2 inch of ice and it took me 20 minutes to chip it off and get the doors open.

My driveway wasn’t bad, I pulled onto the highway and about 1/4 mile from my house on the first gentle curve, I lost control of my car. I spun around twice-hitting the guardrails on both sides of the road with each spin around–into oncoming traffic. The oncoming traffic had to come around me on the wrong side of the road to avoid hitting me. Did I mention that on one side of the road just on the other side of the guardrail there is a ten foot embankment into a creek? On the other side of the road was a cemetary. I thought–How appropriate.

I finally regained control and pulled into a driveway while I assessed the damage. My neck hurts, I think I sprained my wrist and my beautiful Grand Prix is now missing headlights, turn signals and a large part of the front piece that goes under the bumper, the valance panel maybe? It seemed to run OK but I work about 14 miles from home and I didn’t want to risk trying to drive it. Needless to say, I drove back home and called off work.

So how was YOUR morning???

Goodness, Mermaid! I’m just glad you’re okay!

I had an accident very similar to yours several years ago. Spinning out on the expressway, taking out guardposts, even almost falling off an embankment. The only differences were a) I wasn’t injured, and b) there was no cemetary close by. Christ, that was the scariest thing.

Now, just have a nice cup of cocoa and try to calm down. And try to get to the doctor if you can, okay?

Thanks, Persephone

I think I really am all right. I will try to go the the Dr. today if I can get in, if nothing else but to get my wrist checked out. That and to get some good pain pills.

I probably have whiplash. My neck is killing me and motrin is no help.

What really hurt was calling my hubby at work and telling him about it. He spent all morning telling me to be careful. I replied “I’m always careful. I’ve been driving these roads for 20 years and have never wrecked before–Have I?”

One should not tempt fate. I was only going about 20mph. I usually drive like the hounds of hell are on my ass while drinking coffee and eating breakfast on the way to work.

Anyway, I’m back in my warm flannel jammies, I have a fresh cup of coffee and some biscotti I made yesterday and one of my dogs is curled up at my feet. It could definately be worse.

Bath?? I pass by Bath on my way in to town. Gee, I thought we only got 15 inches from the first one (and another 4 from the one last night). Roads weren’t plowed at all this am. Except, of course, for the road in front of my office, which meant I couldn’t get up my driveway. So, after going out this am with wet hair to shovel the end of our driveway, drive the long slow way in to town, parked in a neighboring businesses lot, walked the rest of the way in to work, then shoveled for another hour (my feet were nearly frost bitten - good thing I have warm slippers to put on when I’m there). We’re the only place that’s shoveled the walk this am.

only 14 inches huh?

Some people just like to exaggerate I guess.

19 inches is bad but only a lousy 14 inches ain’t shit. I thought I raised her better than that.
