That’s utter bullshit, and any judge should have laughed it off in a heartbeat. The championships are the culmination of a 5- or 6-month season. They had all the time in the world, and a library with an internet connection suffices for research. I don’t know about the rules in this CEDA (which is supposedly the biggest debate organization in the country), but when I was doing it NFA was the big leagues and none of that shit would fly. Come to think of it, I don’t remember Towson St. being a member college either. NFA was Ivy League, the Academies, and other major universities (BC, MIT, Notre Dame, that level).
That actually hasn’t changed too much, although the judges would still weigh the values of individual points. As a judge I’d’ve thrown it to the girls anyway, simply because they appeared to be using evidence. To be honest, at a one-time run-through I could barely make out any points either side was talking about, and I’d grade it as such.
It’s clear that the two sides had agreed beforehand that they were going to subvert the championship round, and I question the wisdom of any organization that would have let this fly, I don’t care how ebonically aware they are. Bottom line: the debate was supposed to be about the resolution. Not a speed-speaking or rapping contest.
Neither would this auctioneer reading of plans have been acceptable. Seriously, wtf happened to debate? Believe it or not, it actually used to have some prestige. Speakers actually talked at a normal speed so you didn’t need a translator to tell what they were saying, too.

Speaking of Sanders supporters suppressing free speech, they apparently tore up this guy’s sign. And while I think the message on the sign was utterly reprehensible, grabbing it and destroying it is not the way to deal with this. “Pointing and laughing” is more my style.
I keep misreading it and thinking all these people really hate Sarah Jessica Parker. Which is a position I may be able to get behind.

I’ve noticed that the anti-free speech racists who seem to constitute the only black lives matter movement like to make attention-grabbing gestures. Making and displaying a noose is well within their skillset and would fit their modus operandi.
What would being a “hoax” entail? Dumb-ass frat boys just stirring up some shit for the hell of it? Dumb ass activists stirring up some shit? If there is one racist asshole on the campus (as statistics imply is a near certainty) why should I care, assuming that the rest of the campus is moderately sane and responsible? Because all it would take is one, and all it would mean is one.
