I did a quick search for the word “texts” in GQ and couldn’t see a thread.
I’ve received several texts from someone in my area code promoting some sort of Fantasy Sports league. I’ve used the “Diverted Calls” feature, but that doesn’t seem to be effective for texts. I have a pretty big text allowance, but 4 texts in 2 days from this number seems an awful portent. Any dopers know how I can avoid any additional texts from this number?
Report the number to your carrier’s spam reporting service. For AT&T, you fwd the text to 7726.
This article from NYT says there are Android apps, too.
I’m not using the native android SMS app, but try the following: open up your list of messages, and long press on one of the offending texts. Does it offer an “add to blacklist” option? If not, then the free third-party SMS apps Handcent SMS and GO SMS do.
Edit: Hmmm I keep forgetting that US cellphone plans take account of received texts towards allowances. It might be that the blacklist option is just a phone-local thing (it just hides it from you), and the network still delivers it.
