Blood Drive (TV show on SyFi) The Zenith of Impropriority

Holy Crap!

Not sure what to think of this little program. Look up “gratuitous”,

ADJECTIVE
uncalled for; lacking good reason; unwarranted: “gratuitous violence”

and they should cite this show as a prime example. How does this get onto TV?

More blood, violence and sex than most R rated movies. Kind of like a Mad Max/Robocop/Death Race/Porno set at Burning Man if it was directed by Tarantino.

Damn! Hope folks with kids are using those Parental Locks! At least they blacked out the dongs. I’m not easily offended (and I wasn’t), but I think they may have gone a little too far with this shit. Save this for the movies. They have a banner on the bottom of the screen with a phone number for complaints. Last for digits are, “DGAF”.

I like some of the cars. I’m not necessarily recommending it, but you have to see it to believe it. And then you’ll never un-see it. :stuck_out_tongue: Anybody else watch this “thing”?

Either nobody’s watching it, or it left ya’ll speechless!

I’ll check out the second episode tonight.

I think I’m in maybe 5 episodes, and it’s becoming nearly unwatchable. Stupid, violent, filthy and stupid. It looks like they are trying desperately to come up with some kind of story, but its just buried in too much shit.

Anybody else jump into this cesspool yet? Nobody? Bueller?

Don’t have cable, never heard of it

<checks IMDb>

“human blood as fuel”

Yup, stupid all right.

I’ve seen two episodes because of this thread.

I think it wants to be as cool as Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but isn’t. Ash Vs. Evil dead is violent, over-the-top, insane, funny, scary, and awesome.

Blood Drive, so far, is a pale imitation of some of those things. I heard Blood Drive was one of the most violent shows on TV, but it isn’t close to Evil Dead. I also care about the characters on Evil Dead a lot more.

Hey, did you all watch Drive with Nathan Fillion back when it was on Fox? I wish that show had been better and lasted.

Hey, I watch this show on-demand, but it obviously airs on Syfy.

On-demand, all the f-bombs are uncensored. They aren’t even “lazy censoring” like they do with Magicians.

Is this the case when it airs, too?

I don’t think they bleep the f-bombs. I guess I’m not paying too close attention.

We’ve been watching it - yeah - its beyond the pale - but there are bits taht are fucking hilarious as well.

Case in point - Episode 3 - the lengthy con call with Jonathon - that was worth watching the entire episode again.

For those of you who, like me, have never heard of it:

Clearly written by people who have worked on shows and movies before.

Yeah, the Slink character is the only thing worth watching. Well that and maybe the robot chick with the crazy eyes.

SCHWING!

Ahem!

I think what terentii is trying to point out is that “Impropriority” would be something else - maybe an improper ranking of urgency.

Or it could just be a typo.

I guess I’ll have to give the show a glance. I’m sure I won’t like it, but at least I will know how bad it is.

Only watched the first two so far, but I’ve liked it sufficiently to keep watching. It’s stupid fun, and delightfully grindhouse, violent in a ridiculous way. The world is insanely violent and unsafe, and a bunch of girls go out driving in cheerleader uniforms? Why not? A diner in the middle of nowhere somehow has plenty of meat that no one questions? Why would they? It’s ridiculous, and crazy, and I like that kind of thing.

Also loving what I’ve seen so far of Julian Slink. Just the kind of bad guy I’d expect from a show like this.

I’ve been watching it, good mindless entertainment to unwind. If you like Transporter, House of 1,000 Corpses, or Machete you’d like this. I have no idea how/why the cars run on blood though, hard to suspend my disbelief on that one.

They’re demons in the form of cars?

Some kind of evil Heart Enterprises prototype, or some bullshit. It’s getting pretty tedious half-way in…

Anyone still watching? It’s definitely the dumbest show I have on my viewing list, but I put it on when I stay up late and it is certainly better than nothing.

I stand by the idea that they hoped to be as funny and cool as Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but they missed the mark by a lot.

Some things are so over-the-top bad and outrageous that they come back and are kind of awesome again. This show is just about there.

The guy playing Julian Slink was also the best part of, “Falling Skies”, as he played Pope. I thought he was good in that, overcoming some sub-par writing. In this, he is hamming and camping it up, and chewing scenery in a fantastic sense. Love this. The show-long arc may turn out to be utter BS, but there’s a gleeful fun in the blood and mayhem. What other show mixes laughs with bloody, explicit violence so often? Evil Dead does, and that’s another favorite of mine.

For now, this is one of my favorite shows, even though I’m not loving the robot woman plot. Thought she was much more interesting in the 2 minutes she was a human cop. The rest of it, though, I look forward to. I hope this takes awhile before it crashes and burns.

The last episode was weak!
