I’m getting ready for bed so I just took my blood pressure pill. What would happen if I took a whole bunch of them. Would it kill me or just make me sick. How exactly would it kill me. Would it just lower my bp to an unlivable level, or would it kill me some way else. How often do people die from this?
- How old are you?
- What is the name of your med?
but, aaaugh! 40 is coming at me like a freight train! Help!
Oh, and the drug is Vasotec.
40 ran me over loke a freight train 14 years ago. 50 is when you start noticing it.
Vasotec is one of the many trade names for ENALAPRIL MALEATE.
In clinical studies, some hypertensive patients received a maximum dose of 80 mg of enalaprilat intravenously over a fifteen month period. At this high dose, no adverse effects beyond those as associated with the recommended dosages were observed.
Limited data are available in regard to overdosage in humans.
The oral LD50 of enalapril is 2000 mg/kg in mice and rats.
The intravenous LD50 of enalaprilat is 3740-5890 mg/kg in female mice.
The most likely manifestation of overdosage would be hypotension, for which the usual treatment would be intravenous infusion of normal saline solution.
Enalaprilat may be removed from general circulation by hemodialysis and has been removed from neonatal circulation by peritoneal dialysis.

So I’d say that you probably can’t get enough of this stuff in your system all at once to kill you from hypotension.
