Blood, Sweat & Tears Appreciation Thread

I got one of their “Live” CD’s and I listen to it every morning for some fresh funk, soul, rock-n-roll, and damn man do they know how to par-tay! Almost every song on this is about 15 minutes long, filled with improv and some hard core jams.

Then the lead singer had to go and die :frowning:

Anywho, I hear that they are still around, with a different front man, obviously, and if they ever came around I would love to see them play in person.
If I recall, some were even Canadian, too, which is good 'cuz from what I heard Neil Young was getting lonely :stuck_out_tongue:

I really hate to sound like one of those “they sold out and now they’re crap, man” whiners, but if you want funk, soul, rock-n-roll, skip the David Clayton Thomas era and go back to the original “Child Is Father to the Man” when Al Kooper was in the band.

Clayton-Thomas *died{/i]?

Why wasn’t I notified? Anyway, I thought he left BS&T right after BS&T III?

All joking aside, he and Mark Lindsay had two of the most distinctive voices in rock. Can y’all think of any other lead singers whose bands just fizzled after the singer quit 'em? Burton Cummings comes to mind…

Anyway sorry for the slight detour there, and I also liked the Al Kooper version of BS&T, and IMHO, Steve Katz was kinda misplaced in that group, but I understand he was sort of “tolerated”?

Thanks

Shoulda previewed, sorry. Looks kinda nice that way though every once in a while!

Q

I couldn’t agree more. Kooper’s line up was by far the best: more edgy, more adventurous.

Is David Clayton-Thomas dead? Or are we talknig about someone else?

In my youth as a philistine, I used to hate BS&T, particularly DC-T’s voice. As I grew up, I mellowed quite a bit. Now, tunes like “And When I Die” and “God Bless the Child” are pleasant memories.

Don’t remember much about the Kooper years…kind of a sheltered childhood.
