RIP David Clayton-Thomas

The voice of Blood Sweat and Tears has died at age 84. One of the great voices of rock and roll.

I guess there’s only one song to play.

RIP, Mr. Clayton-Thomas. You and Blood, Sweat & Tears were a big part of my formative years.

The Blood, Sweat & Tears album that Clayton-Thomas debuted on (their second) is one of the greatest albums of the 1960s. Far superior to their Al Kooper dominated first album. Heresy, I know. The production, the arrangements, and the song selection was fantastic and all designed to show off this terrific voice. They and he never replicated that, and he reportedly wasn’t a pleasant guy. Sad, but this album will live forever.

RIP

Can’t say how many times I heard him belt out those great songs on AM radio when my friends and I were cruising around in high school.

The documentary What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears? is worth a watch. There’s quite a bit of political intrigue in their story that casual fans (like me) probably weren’t aware of.

“Thank you, Blood and Tears! Sorry to hear about Sweat.”

RIP.

I saw him in concert (1998?) with a group of very young guys at Ocala, Florida’s Silver Springs Attraction when they were presenting their summer concert series, which was free with admission. They were great! Got an autographed pic, absolutely free — for $5.

All time greatest lyric in rock music — “Lovin’ you is where it’s at.”

My personal favourite is “Go Down Gambling”. But no musical tribute to be the man would be complete without this:

BWAHHHHHHH! xlkajdslkfjlsd to placate the gods.

Sorry to see him go, but I realized that my favorite two BST songs did not feature him on vocals (I Can’t Quit Her and Sometimes in Winter). Funny.
