Oooh, this sounds familiar.
When I worked at the university medical center I needed fresh sheeps blood to prepare plating media for clinical microbiology. It’s not so fresh when it’s been sitting on the loading dock in the summer sun for a few hours. Too bad I wasn’t making chocolate agar I suppose. However, I didn’t risk much in the way of ovine disease so that’s something.
