Bloody gorey video games

What do you think the most graphic (ie. blood/gore/violent) video game ever made is? My personal opinion would probably be either Alien vs. Predator or Resident Evil 3.

“Through twilight, darkness and moonrise
My scarlet tears will run
As stolen blood and whispered love
Of fantasies undone”

“Dino Crisis” (PlayStation) is pretty bloody.

Wrong thinking is punished, right thinking is just as swiftly rewarded. You’ll find it an effective combination.

I always do my video game Christmas shopping based on what parents are protesting on CNN are games that should be pulled from the shelves. “Postal” from Ripcord Games was one being protested by parents AND the company was being sued by the US Postal Service. Last year (or was two years ago), they didn’t like the gang violence game “Kingpin” by Interplay (though I haven’t played that one as of yet).

I’d say that Postal had the most violence, but it wasn’t really graphic (the audio, on the other hand…). Of the games I played, Carmageddon probably had the highest body count and blood.

Time Killers by THQ for the arcade and Sega Genesis was extremely bloody and predated the Mortal Kombat “extreme” fatality craze. It was a weapons based fighter with plenty of gore. And extremely pixelly/shoddy graphics.

But I’d probably have to go with The Immortal for Genesis. The NES version was an excellent game but to spice it up for the Genesis they added gore to the fighting. Once you defeated your enemy, you would hit him on the head with your staff. This would cause him to burst into flames, get split in two, or his head would swell up 'til it exploded.

I completely forgot about Postal! It definitely had the most random and senseless violence in it by far. And hey, any game licensed under a company called “Running with siscors” has got to be cool…

Thanks for the input guys, there actually was a point to all this. I was having a discussion with a friend of mine the other day about this very topic to see what other people could come up with.

By the way Yarster, i have kingpin, and it is a great game. I believe it’s built on the quake 2 engine. I think between the violence and all the foul language (ie. when you kill someone in a deathmatch, your character usually screams something along the lines of “DIE YOU RAT FUCK!”). That was the biggest problem people had with it.

Have you seen Alien vs. Predator though? If you use the Predator and his spear gun to shoot someone in the head, the head fly across the room on the spear and stays on it when it sticks in the wall. Then blood shoots out of the neck and all over the wall. Pretty nifty.

As for gory games, Soldier of Fortune has to win, imho. There’s more blood flying around in Quake3, but in Soldier of Fortune, the parts that fly off look like the part the enemy is missing. If you shoot them with a powerful weapon, they don’t just die, parts come off. Dismemberment by shotgun.

If you pump a clip into a corpse, the body twitches as the bullets hit.

If you shoot someone in the leg, they fall over and the leg gets bloody. There are 26 different places to hit someone, including the head, neck, chest, groin, etc.

The realism is what makes SoF IMHO the goriest game I’ve ever played.
Postal? Bleh. Crappy game, lousy interface, terrible programming, pathetic view, and dull gameplay. The only thing it had going for it was hype. The targets were so small you could barely see anything. I’d give it a 3 on the gore-o-meter and a 12 on the over-hype-o-meter.

Blood is pretty bloody. Better graphics in Blood II: The Chosen, but it didn’t seem as bloody and there wasn’t as much humour as in the original.

Are you a turtle?

On an “historic” note, in 1986 there was a pretty gory/sick game called “Chiller”. It was set in a torture chamber, and had a shooting gallery set up where you shot at bodies, body parts, rats, bats, that sort of thing.

I would have to say that
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
is the bloodiest of bloody games.

It starts out pretty mellow, but when you get to the later levels, and get weapons like the cerebral bore, you will see what I mean.

Also, there was a game that was supposed to come out of PSX but never did.

It was called ThrilKill and it was way gory.
Too bad :frowning:

What was the game that had Dana Plato in it? It was one of the first ‘lots of full motion video’ games…had something about aliens doing experiments with humans.

It was pulled big time after the reviews got out. Wait…here it is (thanx IMDB)!

Night Trap!

I guess it was vampires-and we have it to thank for the video games rating system.

BTW-for modern gore, try Unreal Tournament on low gravity setting…little hunks of meat bouncing off corridor walls…eerie.
