Blu-Ray Player Features

A few years ago, I bought a DVD player and once I had it home I discovered it had two features that I liked but didn’t rise to “advertising feature”.

One was what I call the “wait, what?” button. While playing a disc you could hit this button and it would jump back 20 seconds.

The other was that the first fast-forward speed (1.5x) played the flim with sound and captions. The sound wasn’t perfect but you could tell what was going on. I used this extensively watching the last of the “Lord of the Rings” movies, zooming right thru those long battle scenes.

My questions are:

  1. Does anyone know of a brand of Blu-Ray player with those features?
  2. Is there any easy way to find out? My only current solution is to go to each manufacture’s website and read the user’s manual online.

I’m sure that most, if not all, players have the 1.5x fast forward. I know my PS3 does and I can’t see a reason not to have the ability. I’m not sure about the jump back option as I’ve never used it.

Does the PS3 do 1.5x with sound?

For the first feature, try googling “Instant replay” or “instant rewind” or similar.
