I know blu-ray players can play DVD’s. Are they limited to region 1 dvd’s or are they region-free?
A bump. Anyone?
Just like normal DVD players Blu-Ray players sold in the US are generally region 1 players but you can find some region free players.
I thought blu-ray discs had a different code system (A, B, and C) with the Americas being Region A. So I realize blu-ray players have regional coding for blu-rays but I don’t know if their DVD playing capability is also regionally coded.
FYI, I just tried playing a Region 2 DVD (purchased from Amazon.co.uk) in my American Sony PS3. It declined to play but the error message was that PAL video is not supported. Nothing about the wrong region.
I’ve had a Region 2 DVD fail for a region code before. So, it does happen, at least in some cases.
Well, it’s clearly not automatic so it’s I’ll have to check on when I’m shopping for a blu-ray player.
