Blue Balls (TMI)

Wikipedia says it has nothing to do with sperm, but rather with blood flow to the genitals, which is something that both men and women experience.

Pelvic heaviness and aching–sounds a lot like what I described.

Care to resolve that, then? I’ll concede that women can get it too but I still maintain that it’s nothing like what you describe. There’s a “I haven’t had sex and I’m horny” feeling and then there’s a “Blue Balls-OWW!” feeling.

Yup, you don’t make sperm in response to arousal - you make seminal fluid, which is what nearly all of the ejaculatory volume is composed of. Sperm production just goes on regardless, 24/7.

In me it’s been rare but not unknown, and carries the added disadvantage that if too long goes by between getting worked up and having some private time, it’s then really difficult to get off.

I get exactly the aching described if I don’t urinate promptly after ejaculation. Does anyone else get this?

Maybe it’s not as bad as all that. It’s definitely annoying, though.

Ooooh, the ole ad hominem! Good one! I didn’t see that coming

Sorry to revive an old thread, but in the spirit of fighting ignorance, I have to offer a plausible cause for my severely Blue Balls (see the OP): average male ejaculation volume of c. 5 ml has always seemed way less than mine. So, I took to task to measuring my average load and came up with 9 ml, or 1.8 times the reported average. It would seem logical that the bigger the ejaculation-to-be, the stronger the pressure build-up in the works - assuming it’s not the simple blood flow to the genitals that causes the pain as Wikipedia implies (I find that hard to believe).

Maybe guys with voluminous ejaculations are prone to painfully blue balls? Maybe guys typically cum less with aging, explaining the prevalence of the condition among youths in contrast to the rarity among older men?

Blue balls are the least of your worries. Best hope that your balls don’t simply explode, leaving an eviserated mess where your crown jewels used to be.

Why do you find it hard to believe that it’s just blood flow causing the sensations?

…huh?

Sometimes, yes. But “real” blue balls (caused by lots of stimulation but no release) are usually much more painful for me.

To add another data point - vasectomised males get it, and it’s relieved in the same fashion - so its not sperm backing up in the testes (they would just stay there and continue to cause discomfort for males who’ve had the snip) - probably fluids in the prostate instead.
