I have not watched the show, but a couple of months ago I watched some Medicare videos on YouTube, and suddenly recommendations popped up on my Firestick screen for the Jesse Stone movies. I made fun of them, and then I watched all but one of them, which I have queued up.
They are incredibly repetitive and old-school predictable, but Tom Selleck is fun to watch, and it’s fun to see New England as well.
I have to imagine this show is similar, all about the irascible Tom Selleck and his imparting of moral lessons, but I could be wrong.
Sundance runs a Blue Bloods Marathon Monday nights. No subscription required for Sundance.
That’s increased the show’s popularity. This coming season will probably get higher ratings. Let’s hope so. Maybe CBS will consider making Season 15.
For me, Blue Bloods is more enjoyable when I can watch 4 or 5 episodes in an evening. There is a connected story line for the characters throughout the episodes. I like the gratification of getting things resolved in a couple evenings. Instead of waiting 2 months to see 8 episodes.
Assuming that a big arc will be Selleck’s character’s impending retirement, his feelings about this, and his efforts wrt his replacement. (Is there a mandatory retirement age for cops not on active duty?)
I’m fascinated to find out how they address being in a post Floyd world; the series has always been kinda conservative and cop friendly. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just ignored it for the most part.
Len was a very young dad. It’s hard to raise a son when you are only 6 years old.
The commissioner isn’t a cop. He’s a civilian even if he used to be a cop. Most of the time they get the distinction right on the show. Sometimes they muddy it up a bit. As far as I know there isn’t a mandatory retirement age but I might be wrong. Officially it’s a 5 year appointment by the mayor but they serve at the pleasure of the mayor and can be let go at any time. Ray Kelly was 72 when he left and I believe he was the oldest as well as longest serving commissioner.
Throughout the years they have had to twist the plot into pretzels to keep him in office through many different mayors. That is more unrealistic than his age. It’s not clear what his age is supposed to be anyway. As was pointed out above the guy playing his father is only 6 years older. I don’t think Len Cariou is supposed to be playing someone pushing 100 so maybe Selleck is supposed to be younger. Or they don’t want you to think about it much.
I’m a sporadic viewer and not when it’s originally broadcast. Even without seeing every episode I’ve seen them deal with post Floyd issues. They’ve had a few seasons between then and now. It would be weird if they had waited until 2024 to deal with it.
