I have been critical of CNN lately for some of the same things I used to be critical of Fox. It boils down to partisan media. Beyond that, CNN doesn’t do news anymore, it is all politics.
That said, the Trump administration sure does seem to be generating a lot of “blue meat”. CNN can go on all day in a partisan way because there is just so much material. The Sessions perjury scandal is only the latest.
Has anyone else noticed this strange new source of blue meat? Do you think they will finally get wise, or is it on purpose, or is it something else?
What’s “blue meat”. If the term means ‘biased news’, does it slant one way only, or both ways? Is the OP asking about news in general, or just CNN? Is this thread title vague enough to require mod intervention, or does everyone else know what it is about?
You have to remember that the US election (and the advent of Trump) has been a world changing event in many ways. Whilst I don’t subscribe to either CNN or Fox (I’m in Australia) so can’t comment on their partisanship with any authority, the news *here *has also been saturated with all things Trump, up to and including the current debacle with Jeff Sessions.
IOW, there is no other news except politics at the moment.
I meant “blue meat” as the D version of red meat, only it is upside down because it is being dished out constantly by the other party. Anyone can be partisan, but the raw material for it seems especially abundant these days.
I pay very little attention to CNN, as I prefer to get my news from other sources, but I would think that MSNBC is far more partisan than CNN.
In any event, assuming that CNN pays some attention to what its viewers want, any recent emphasis on politics is indeed on purpose, as that topic brings eyeballs (and thus advertising revenue).
Heh, I really wasn’t very clear, was I? My bad. The “they” that I’m speculating about getting wise or doing it on purpose is the Trump administration. I sometimes wonder if they aren’t deliberately doing things that will get “liberals” talking, just to stay the focus of attention, or whatever the motive is.
I also feel much more of an atmosphere of spectation, like we are only able to watch things unfold, as opposed to the “normal” state of nominal government participation.
I hope the Trump administration isn’t stupid enough to “deliberate doing things that will get ‘liberals’ talking, just to stay the focus of attention”. First, they’re the administration and don’t need to do anything to stay the focus of attention. Second, these things they’re doing are damaging not helpful.
It’s obvious that Bannon’s strategy is to skewer any liberal sacred cow he can reach. I agree on your point that the result of this strategy is to generate so much bait news (“blue meat”) that the opposition can’t settle on what angle to push.
Trump’s business conflicts of interest could so easily be spun into a term-ending Whitewater-esque fishing expedition, but the news/social outlets burn so much time talking about crowd sizes, Bowling Green, Sweden, and other crap.
I have no idea if Bannon saw his strategy playing out like this, but it’s working, and he’s smart enough to repeat a working strategy even if it works for reasons he didn’t expect.
I once opened a package of beef-bacon that had blue- turquoise and royal- along the edges. Called the company, and it turns out it was a dye stamp of some sort.
