Bluetooth issue - partial connection?

So I’ve used the clumsy system of a wired connection to plug things like my phone into the AUX jack of my Odyssey, and it works. However, it’s clumsy and compounded by the fact that the AUX input is two RCA jacks back in the rear passenger area, necessitating the run of a cord from there up to the driver’s poz.

I finally bought a Bluetooth puck (Anker - I’ve had good luck with their stuff) and that in theory lets me bury the cable under floormats and get the advantages of a BT connection for my phone to the the sound system. (First issue: don’t skip buying a ground loop isolator. The audio connection whines without one. Should be built into the BT device but for $20 I guess it’s a luxury.)

The problem is that the device works fine - beautifully - with everything except my everyday Note II. Three or four newer Android devices connected quickly and without fuss. But the N2 pairs, connects… and then will play only about one second before pausing. I’ve tried everything, dug into what little menuing there is. It’s the same on all audio apps - onboard music, Pandora, Google Music, etc. The phone works fine with several other BT receivers, including a Roku 2 and a Twist sound bar.

Does a phone this old (ca. 2012, KitKat) just have a fatal BT inconsistency? Or is there some Secret Trick I Won’t Believe that will fix this? It’s a PITA, because I always have my phone but don’t care to carry my new tablet just for musicky stuff.
