I’m new here, a couple weeks, and have posted about a dozen times. About three of those imes I tried to edit my post immediately after I posted it and was refused. I’ve tried editing posts from a day before and no go. I just posted a few minutes ago to the thread about slow downloads and tried to edit and could not.
I have cookies enabled, the site recognizes me and knows when I’m here, but when I try to edit it thinks I’m someone else, apparently. I sent an email to webmaster about a week ago but haven’t gotten a response.
Any thoughts. Have I overlooked a setting in my browser? Thanks for any help.
Editing of posts is disabled on the board. You have to get used to getting it right the first time.
Nope, you’re not missing anything. They’ve disabled the edit function for members to avoid problems with people changing their posts and confusing the threads. Check out the FAQ–it’s full of all kinds of info on the boards and what is/isn’t acceptable or allowed around here. And, in the future, just preview your post beforehand to avoid needing to edit, and let the little typos slide.
Welcome!
Welcome aboard, Thin Ice, glad to have you with us.
I am moving this thread to the forum “About this Message Board” which is the best place for it.
And, as others have said, we rejected the idea of allowing members to edit their own posts. We’ve got too many smart-alecks who would make some inflammatory statement and then edit it away after others have flamed back. Thus, we do not allow ordinary members to edit their own posts.
If you’ve made a minor typo, don’t sweat it, we all do. If you’ve made a major typo that changes the meaning of your comment (“not” instead of “now”, for instance, or an incorrect link), email a Moderator or Administrator, and they’ll be glad to fix it for you.
You might also want to check out the Technical Issues FAQ, which lists a number of features that have been disabled for one reason or another (usually either potential for abuse or board speed issues). The technical issues FAQ, as well as the associated Posting Guidlines FAQ contain some pretty useful references. Welcome aboard.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the info. Sorry I posted to the wrong forum. Yeah, I should have read the FAQs. Thanks again.
