I’ve just read a notice on another board that uses the same software as the SDMB that very long threads significantly negatively impacts the board, in particular search times. They’ve asked people to fork threads at 1000 posts. Perhaps putting a limit of 250 or 500 might help the SDMB somewhat?
We have few threads that go that long. I suspect it really doesn’t make a big difference here.
