Bob Barker retiring

Now if they would only yank the I Love Lucy reruns, I might be able to get over the emotional scarrings of sick days as a child.

/There, I’ve said it.

Emotional scarring? Explain the joke.

Just let me say that I hope to retire at 83 with a godzillion dollars in the bank and a babe wife (VeryCoolSpouse, of course), to spend the rest of my time supporting a cause that I sincerely care about whenever I’m not just goofing off. That would work for me.

Right about the time Happy Gilmore came out, I was listening to the radio as the DJ, who had somehow got Bob Barker’s home phone number, called him up and chatted for a while, live on the air. It sounded like the real deal to me, and Bob came off as being an easygoing guy with a self-effacing sense of humor. He talked pretty openly about his issues with his female co-stars, though I don’t recall any specifics. He also talked about being in Happy Gilmore – he’d told the producers that he would do the whole fight scene with Adam Sandler on one condition. That he got to win.
