The US has really been struggling since the World Cup, but Bradley had signed an extension through 2014, so it a bit of a surprise. Speculation is that Jurgen Klinnsman will take over. An announcement is scheduled for tomorrow.
Well that’s what happens in soccer when results aren’t going your way. The coach gets fired.
Or any other sport.
He’s a good coach and he’ll soon find another job, but the US team needed new ideas, especially since, in part for Bradley work, they are now expected to be more than Mexico’s tough rival.
Let’s hope the USSF can get past the problems they had with Juergen last time they negotiated with him. I don’t care if they perceived him as a ‘control freak’…that may in fact be what this team needs.
I have no problem with Bradley’s firing. The question is who will replace him? I’m not sure Klinnsman is an improvement. I like that he would be involved with the program, but I’m not sure I was him as coach.
The other rumored replacement is Marcello Lippi, although an inside source at USSF is quoted as saying that the new coach “won’t come as a surprise”, which would tend towards Klinsmann. Also some traction for the idea that Sigi “the Hut” Schmid could be named.
Also today, Sepp Blatter confirmed that the 2022 World Cup will be in Qatat, during June and July. Tomorrow’s forecast for Doha shows a temperature of 104° with 70% humidity, for a heat index of 140°.
Being a weather forecaster in Qatar must be awesome. I guess you’d get sick of pasting “Sunny, extremely hot” into every forecast though…
I’m glad he was fired, but not because I hated what he was doing as a coach. Rumor has it that he didn’t have the support of the players anymore, and that’s the death of a US team. They don’t have the skill to succeed, so they need to be united, not infighting.
Excellent! I wish this had happened after South Africa, but better late than never. I read the contract is through the 2014 WC. If he only manages the USMNT through that point, I hope he stays on afterward to work on overall player development from the youth teams on up.
Yay.
Not that I have some inherent dislike for Bradley, but … we got Klinsmann in! It’s about friggin’ time we get some leadership who actually knows something about winning in this sport.
I smell good things coming our way.
You’ll certainly get a team better trained in the art of diving.
