Jindal is a very smart guy. He just thinks the voters are morons, so that’s how he talks to them.
I also think that the GOP believes the voters are imbeciles who will vote for a shiny new, Ivy League ethnic just because they (the GOP leadership) think that’s why Obama got elected. They think they can kep the outside the same, but fill it up with bog-standard, right wing boilerplate, and all people will see is the fashionable exterior. It’s the same dumbass, superficial reasoning that caused them to nominate Palin.
Far from despising L.A. County, I consider it to be, essentially, my home town (Torrance, specifically). And I don’t really accept that OC exists as a result of Los Angeles overflowing its banks, as it were. Both counties evolved independently from their beginnings as parts of the California mission system, and the royal land grants from the King of Spain in the days of Zorro.
It looks as if his efforts to cut spending to the bone, to the shagrin of both parties, have failed. Hell, I remember when our entire debt hit one trillion for the first time and that was met with derision. Now we have a one year deficit of almost twice that.
Be honest: He didn’t inherit all of this deficit. What was it last year? 400 billion? He’s added over a trillion in one year!
Well they’re going to need a helluva lot more than ol’ Bobby to change that image. I was focusing on the R faces during Obama’s speech the other night. A more bored-looking, stodgy bunch of dried up prune-faced guys would be hard to find. Jesus…they all looked like they were fighting a sleep apnea episode.
Be honest, the Republicans ran the entire conquest of Iraq off budget, so they didn’t count it towards the deficit. Then they engaged in profit-taking on the economy, so hard that the financial sector needed a last minute infusion of 700 billion just to keep the doors open. John Yoo style accounting aside, the last year of Bush easily cost America an unnecessary couple of trillion.
And it should be noted that that amount is going to show up in the real debt now because Obama is reversing that practice. No more sweeping the numbers under the carpet and ignoring that the lump it causes goes up to the ceiling.
It wasn’t counted in the budget he submitted, but it is certainly counted in the year end deficit figures, and it is counted in the debt calculation. If it isn’t, where does it get counted?
I’m not saying I’m not giving Obama a change, but please don’t insult me by talking about how we have to control spending when you submit a budget with a $1.75 trillion deficit. Did you all read that number? 1.75 TRILLION deficit, in one year. Less assign 100% of the blame to Bush. Fine. Obama is now President and he is the one that just submitted this 1.75 TRILLION dollar monstrosity while at the same time tell us of the “hard choices” we must make. I’m not saying that Bush wasn’t misleading us. He was. But I was looking for change here. Yes, we can, right?
It’s like your idiot brother in law with a 500 hundred dollar per day cocaine habit talking about how frugal he is with money. It doesn’t even pass the smell test.
If it costs 5,000 dollars to get into a rehab program to kick the drug, and the program works, you’d tell him to do it, right? I might even lend my brother the money for that.
