Bobby Petrino, another one that just pissed away a great job.

Notable guy from Arkansas gets caught in sex scandal? Was she wearing a blue dress? Does he smoke cigars?

That was my thought. I mean, the Clinton Library is there; maybe Bobby was reading some of Bill’s private notes for advice. Bill didn’t lose his job over it, why should Bobby?

excavating (for a mind)

If he was pissing away a great job, he’s doing it wrong. Or he’s just a lot more kinky than anyone would have guessed.

D&R

I don’t have stats, but I’d guess many or most do. These guys are the public face of multi-million dollar public programs, one of whose obstensible missions is to guide young men into adulthood. Head coaches in college football are father figures, bosses and demigods.

Much like CEOs, politicians and other high-level positions, “it doesn’t have anything to do with my job performance” doesn’t wash. At that level, not embarrassing the school is part of the job.

Of course, Arkansas probably deserves it; he was widely regarded as an asshole when they were conducting secret negotiations with him; they should have known what they were getting.

He hasn’t been fired yet. Reports I read said he did tell the state police that he had a passenger during the wreck. They even got a statement from her.

He did try to keep it from the press.

Personally I don’t think its anyones business who he sleeps with. He wasn’t hanging out in strip clubs, doing drugs, or drinking. He apparently had a consensual relationship with an adult woman. He helped get her a job after the affair. She wasn’t screwing her boss.

But, this is a conservative, Southern state. I’d say its 50/50 that he stays with a strong warning not to sin again.

Apparently a big chunk of the problem is that he didn’t tell his boss initially. He only came clean when the police report was about to come out.

In the scheme of coverups this isn’t huge. Compared to a lot of others it looks like he was fairly forthcoming. But, the idea that he hired this hottie, had an affair with her (before or after the hiring I’m not clear) and she was engaged to another dept. employee looks really messy. It’s a huge black eye for the athletic dept. It will be interesting to see how U of Ark handles this. I’m not calling for anyone’s scalp. I’m watching as a spectator as if I’m waiting for the next episode of Mad Men.

BTW, the hottie must be total, opportunistic trouble. Guys, stay away no matter how appealing. This woman is bad news.

As said earlier, the script writes itself.

Can we hook up a paper towel tube to test this out?

Did that happen before or after Mrs. P got to the hospital?

Good one!

She now has more ammo than the US Army. It will be interesting to see how she plays it.

And he has four kids. Not to be Mrs. Love joy but won’t anyone think of the children?

I get why he had the affair. She’s hot and his wife is probably getting a bit frumpy. Even is she isn’t, I think men look for a bit of strange every now and then. I get that and frankly don’t think it is always a bad thing. However, to hire her, to bang her while she is engage to someone in your business? What a clown.

Arkansas just gave the old arrogant fucker the shitcan…

Gotta love the photo.

So yea, he pissed away a great job. He’ll be an OC in the pros or maybe coach New Orleans next season.

Jeff Long looked really angry at the ESPN news conference. There was no way anyone could have talked him out of firing Petrino.

I still don’t think its anyone’s business. Petrino has to answer to his wife and family and no one else. I would have given him a pass this first time. It doesn’t have anything to do with how he coaches football.

He needs to return to pro ball where he’s not expected to be some great icon of virtue & morality.

I do wonder how pure and saintly Jeff Long is? Maybe he’s gotten some lovin on the side too? Guys in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Wait a minute. It was not just an affair. The woman was on staff and engaged to another employee. That takes it into another realm. If Long was getting it from a subordinate then shame on him and his judgement but you have nothing, absolutely nada, to infer that. Shame on you. Long’s obligation is to protect the University and the Athletic Dept. Petrino is not getting fired for having an affair. He is getting fired for violating some basic employment principles that the University and the Athletic Dept. have every right to enforce.

I was just giving an example. Nearly everyone of us has a few skeletons in the closet. That’s the point of the scripture, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” We’re all imperfect in various ways.

Maybe Petrino shouldn’t have helped the lady get a job. I helped a close friend get a job about 12 years ago. I knew him from my softball team and knew he was qualified. It was in an entirely different dept. from mine. I talked with a friend in HR. I always thought that’s what friends are for. If I can recommend someone for a job at work, then I will.

Were you fucking him (and/or his fiance)?

Fraid not. That would have been a bit awkward for both of us. Since we’re both straight.

<shrug> Petrino is better off going back to the NFL. He’ll eventually make better money and won’t have the hassles of NCAA rules.

I feel bad for the Seniors on the team. This would have been a really good year for the Razorbacks. Now, its probably not going to be very successful.

OK, fine. The whole situation is horrible. Don’t cast aspersions on Long for doing his job. None of this has anything to do with his personal life. It has to do with Petrino really shitting in his nest.

Be sorry for everybody, especially the wife and kids, but that is no excuse for giving Petrino a pass. Right now, I have to commend Long for showing some spine and standing up to the clueless idiots that get their self esteem from watching a bunch of hired guns, who happen to be wearing a jersey they like, win some football games.
