Body weight and foot problems. Is there a direct correlation?

For the past year or so I have had problems with the arch on my right foot, specifically plantar faciitis. After seeing a podiatrist he prescribed custom made orthotics which have pretty much corrected the problem… but I’ve been wondering…

For the past 5 yrs I’ve been hovering around 200 lbs for my weight. I’m 6 ft 1 tall so200 lbs is not what most would consider grossly obese, but it is heavier than normal for my height. I was definately packing a good belly there. I was wondering if weight had any type of correlation to foot problems? If I were get back to my ideal weight (about 180), would the foot/arch problem go away on it’s own over time?

I developed plantar fasciitis with normal weight. I do have hypermobility syndrome, where-in my ligaments, tendons and fascia are more elastic than they should be.
My feet are much better due to these
They look funny, but I could barely walk before I got them.

I have plantar fasciitis. I’m overweight, but according to my doc, that’s not the only problem.

Lack of exercise. When I quit my “on my feet all day” retail job and got a “sit like a lump” retail job my tendons panicked and I started having the terrible ‘first step’ pain.

I got some gel inserts (yeah, I’m gellin…) and it went away with moderate stretching and walking.
