My example is cold fish with horseradish; Eastern European Jews - gefilte fish/horseradish, and the Japanese - raw fish and wasabi (more interesting similarity would be Kamaboko).

Another Japanese example: some savoury-sweet bean dishes like the black beans served for the new year (kuromame) remind me of French Canadian fèves au lard – beans with lard, usually eaten with maple syrup. In both cases, you have beans covered in sweet syrup.
