Bolton book on Trump coming out

He’s wrong. Getting 20 GOP senators onboard with a conviction was not happening regardless. Trump could have started beheading interns in the Rose Garden and they still wouldn’t have done their constitutional and patriotic duty. Not today’s republicans.

Nonsense. The Democrats weren’t the problem. It was the Republicans who simply refused to listen to consider any charges and pronounced they would not vote for Trump’s impeachment before the hearings even began.

You are right that the outcome would not have been any different. But there should have been more articles of impeachment. Might have changed Trump’s approval rating by a few points, and every point matters in this election

LOL!

You get extra points for that one, redeemable at the gift counter in front.

Dear President of China, I need a favor: John Bolton: Trump sought Xi's help to win re-election - BBC News

I recall Trump being critical of China (far more than Russia).

So Bolton is claiming that he had information that would require removing the president from power, but that he declined to provide this information to the public because Democrats wouldn’t subpoena him. Is that about right?

Because he’s a cowardly piece of shit. I mean, I’m glad he’s spilling the beans eventually, but he should be groveling and begging for forgiveness for not doing so sooner, not blaming other people for his inaction.

TV excerpt: John Bolton: “I think Putin thinks he can play him (Trump) like a fiddle.”

I agree. I wasn’t trying to give him credit for waiting to write a book, and should have read the quote a little more carefully.

The house could not have given him a subpoena ?

Let me break down how this would have worked:

The Democrats investigate a wide variety of Trump corruption and bring numerous other charges of impeachment.

The Republicans still vote to acquit.

The media carps about how “The Democrats spread themselves too thin! They should have focused on one specific area of investigation and made their case on it!”

To echo previous posts, the Republicans are the problem. They have been the problem, and they will continue to be the problem until they are removed from power.

What a wonderful, succinct and accurate post! Welcome to the forum!

Possibly true, but certainly not if you don’t try.

Trump is a guy who has been accused by four Republican women of sneaking into a tween model changing room to watch them undress. The grand majority of people do not know that; they don’t know that he took money from US veterans; they don’t know that he threatened to send men to beat up a creditor’s wife to stop him from trying to argue the case on a $1.25b debt.

The case the Democrats made is that “This guy thought that Trump was doing this for bad reasons, and everyone else believed him.” They never tried to show any reason to think that we should believe that reading of the situation to be correct. To most people, who pay almost no attention to the news, Trump is just some successful businessman who ain’t PC. They have no idea that he’s the mega-loser that he is and they have no reason to change their political support for the President. You don’t move politicians unless you move the people, and the trial was the one great chance to run the man through all the mud he’s created over the decades.

Of all people in the world who you could prove that “larcenous purpose” is the correct and only reasonable read for, Donald Trump is that person.

They didn’t bring in Giuliani, they didn’t bring in Fruman, and barely spoke to Parnas. They made no case that the House has full power of a Grand Jury, under the history of how impeachment came into being. They televised their accusations, giving Team Trump weeks of advance notice on every argument they were going to make and rendered the calling of witnesses moot.

They had reason to believe that there were other transcripts of equal horror with more nations, also corruptly hidden away and made no attempt to retrieve them - didn’t even mention them once.

Their case that speed was of the necessity for the coming election was reasonable. And by that extension, they could have gotten quick answer from the Supreme Court on any matters of debate.

They had every opportunity to get a real lawyer in to prosecute the case and, instead, they picked some representatives who needed financial support and had them go out and say some things in the Senate.

Bolton miscalculated and, by all means, he deserves some amount of scorn for that. But there’s no argument to be made in defense of the Democrats. They were aggressively and purposely deficient. I’m sure they raked in the bucks for their campaigns, but that’s just barely a level above behaving like Donald Trump.

Thanks, I try anyway!

Of course ‘blaming other people for his inaction’ is the GOP brand. (My emphasis in quote.)

The bushwa about how the Democrats should have made impeachment about eleventy-seven other Trump horrors is, well, bushwa. As new account SwissMan noted, if they had done that they would have been excoriated for having spread themselves thin instead of “properly” concentrating on one clear charge.

And Bolton is an opportunist who deserves to be consigned to the ash-heap of history.

Extortion of an ally for personal gain AND helping a hostile foreign country at the same time was not enough. The Democrats failed because they didn’t bring up all his other crimes.
:smack:
If they had brought up his other crimes, it would still been in the House. They would just be trying to buy enough servers to hold all the evidence of his crimes.

Do you not remember that the mainstream press covered the different scenarios of trying to get Trump on everything he looks guilty of versus pursuing the most obvious case of getting the Ukraine to go after Trumps political opponents.

Republicans didn’t care and there’s nothing that will convince Moscow Mitch to sell out Putin. Don’t try to turn this around that Trump would have been successfully impeached if only the Democrats had done x. That is as much bullshit as saying that Mueller’s report exonerated trump, where the opposite is true.

And Bolton is a well experienced Washington “knife fighter.” If he had something that would take down trump and if he wanted to, it would have been child’s play for Bolton to go make the case the Pelosi and Schumer. Bolton is an Ollie North patriot, which is to say Benedict Bolton is anything but a patriot.

Shorter Bolton: “The Democrats are pussies for not investigating stuff I kept secret.”

ANd the BBC publlishes one of the first articles summarising parts fo teh book:
John Bolton: Trump sought Xi’s help with re-election

Low points:

  • Trump asked Xi to have China buy more soybeans to help him win re-election;

  • Trump appears not to have known that the UK is a nuclear power;

  • Trump suggested that journalists who do not reveal their sources should be hanged.

And the Guardian’s summary: John Bolton’s bombshell Trump book: eight of its most stunning claims

  1. Trump pleaded with China to help win the 2020 election [ so, what’s wrong with asking for a little help from his friends? ]

  2. Trump suggested he was open to serving more than two terms [ because the world just can’t get enough Trump - he was doing us all a favour ]

  3. Trump offered favors to dictators [ eg - stopping criminal prosecutions ]

  4. Trump praised Xi for China’s internment camps [ now we know where the idea for kids in cages came from ]

  5. Trump defended Saudi Arabia to distract from a story about Ivanka [ how to kill a story about Ivanka’s e-mail? defend a murderous Saudi prince ]

  6. Trump’s top staff mocked him behind his back [ like that’s a surprise ]

  7. Trump thought Finland was part of Russia [ a century ago it was; he’s just getting caught up on the briefing notes from the Wilson era]

  8. Trump thought it would be ‘cool’ to invade Venezuela [ shoulda tried to buy it, like he did Greenland - oh, wait …]

Oh, Trump is corrupt! That’s new information.

Oh, Trump is a corrupt dumbass! That’s new.
[/QUOTE]

Oh, Trump is a corrupt dumbass with authoritarian tendencies! I’m shocked by this revelation!

Bolton is a traitorous coward.
