Yesterday Interstate 85 in South Carolina was shut down. While the local news sites were still saying that it was a hazardous chemical spill, a reporter posted on Facebook that he had information that it was a bomb threat—which turned out to be true. The guy’s name turns out to be Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi and he’s an immigrant, so you can imagine the local conspiracy theories. I suspect the story might go national.
I’ve never driven that freeway yet the closure of a 106 mile freeway sounded like hell from three thousand miles away. It’s the kind of stoppage where some cars with full gas tanks probably ran out of gas. What a pain in the kiester!
Hopefully the authorities set up roadblocks in each direction at the on and off ramps near the incident so oncoming drivers could get off the highway. Still a pain in the butt to figure out an alternate route, but no need to keep hundreds of cars stacked up waiting for hours.
