Bones 2/19 - Why do I still watch this crap?

I didn’t get all the character names, but the scruffy, skinny young dude with a beard that looks like somebody smeared jelly on his face – the one that hooked up with the Gothy weapon-collecting chick – admitted to his geekiness by saying something like: “Okay, I like it all. Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, Buffy – I even watch Fringe.” I was hoping he’d mention Angel.

And it brings up something that’s been bugging me for years. Am I right in thinking that Fandom now includes lots of people who watch movies, watch tv shows, read comic books – but don’t read actual books? “Fans” who’ve never read Asimov, or Heinlein, and don’t have a clue who John Campbell was? Maybe I’ve got the wrong impression. I live in Atlanta; maybe I should go to Dragoncon this year and check it out.

John Cambell - wasn’t he in those Evil Dead movies?

Well, there was a guy I ran into at a con in Virginia Beach about 21 years ago who was into thundercats … and only thundercats  He didn’t read, he didnt watch most of the usual at that time stuff [star trek, star wars, no japanese anime …] He did have a killer hall costume, but didnt understand why the others were dressed in stuff from books … and that year there was a guy that was about 4 feet tall dressed just like a tolkein hobbit, right down to adding glued on hair to his feet

Speaking of geekdom, I keep hoping that they’ll make a reference to DeForest Kelley. So far, no luck.

I tend to wonder that in every episode of every FBI series. I’m not really up on jurisdictional procedure, but I was under the impression that the FBI only steps in if the case involves more than one state, or solely federal crimes.

This episode wasn’t great, although the geek stuff was fun, but it was definitely better than the previous one. Hopefully things are starting to get back on track…

They used to provide an explanation as to how each case was an FBI case (if not immediately obvious). Like everything else in the series, it started as low key, expository information that fit seamlessly into the show, and ended up being pointlessly hamfisted.
