Bonus Jack

When I was a kid, I liked Jack-In-The-Box’s Bonus Jack. Much better than the Big Mac. But you know… There was Carl’s Jr. and Naugles (later, Del Taco – ‘Of the taco’?) and they were better than Jack-In-The-Box. Somewhere along the line, Jack-In-The-Box dropped the Bonus Jack from their menu. I don’t know when, but I haven’t seen a Bonus Jack for donkey’s years. (<== Insert joke.) I’ve been to Jack-In-The-Box a few times, 'cause sometimes ya just gotta have a couple of Jack-In-The-Box tacos. And because they’re basically the only game in town. I’ve tried to like their burgers, but they just don’t taste as good as the Bonus Jacks I remember as a kid.

A little while ago I wanted to refresh my memory of what they actually were. I found this page, which was posted on Friday.

Looks like the Bonus Jack is coming back. I’ll give it a try.

Alright! I loved the Bonus Jack. And the tacos, too, of course. The stoner commercial hits too many of us where we used to live.

Naugles…I miss that place, too. They had better fast-food Mexican than any of the other chains. Maybe because they cooked the beans with lard.

Naugles was bought out by Del Taco. Fortunately, the things I liked were added to the menu. I wish there were Del Tacos up here. We have Taco Bell and Taco Time, both of which are teh suxx0r. Oh, for a Macho Meat burrito every once in a while. Good burgers, too. At least there’s a Carl’s Jr that, while not completely convenient, is on the way home when I’m working in Seattle.

The Bonus Jack can’t touch a Del Taco burger, but I’ll give it a shot.

I wonder if Jack in the Box still makes the tacos the way we did when I worked there almost forty years ago? The tacos shells came pre-stuffed with cooked taco meat, and the whole thing went into the fryer for 90 seconds, then the lettuce, cheese and tomatoes were added.

Anybody know?

I don’t know about the specifics, but judging by the tacos that’s the way they still do it. They taste the same to me as they did a quarter of a century ago.

Alas. No Bonus Jacks in this area. I was told they’re being sold at the bottom of the state. (I’m at the top.)
