Book on Positive Thinking (recommend)

I used to be a very positve person. But in the last 6 months I found myself being more and more negative. Now I find myself full of negativity.

Has anyone any reccomendations on a book on how to be more positive?

anything by George Carlin?

Seriously, I would try Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

Are you looking for a sort of “inspiration fix” or something more in the lines of a self help technique? For the former I generaly turn to movies or liturature with a good triumph over adversity type story, The Shawshank Redemption for example.

In the realm of self help books there are literaly thousands of titles in that industry. For the most part it’s a matter of finding something that you can relate to and gives you a sence of traction with what ever issues you find yourself dealing with. I don’t think there are any one size fits all solutions out there (Biblical literalists asside). In that light the two books that helped me are The Silva mind Controll Method and Maxwell Maltz’s Psycho-Cybernetics. In both caes I would take care not to fall for any of the more overstated claims but I can assure you from persoanal experiance that the techniques described there can be used to very positive effect.

If you’re looking for positivity within a spiritual framework, you can’t go wrong with A Course In Miracles.

More along the lines of technique. I want to try to stop the negative and put a positve spin on things.

Right now we took a survey at work. And being the Systems Analyst I pull the reports and analyze them. I didn’t really realize how negative everyone felt.

Our team when from a 95% in 2000 positive rating to 34% in 2003.

I realize economy etc has a lot to do with it, then I realized I myself am contributing to the negativity. I have suffered no economic loss or social loss so I must be getting caught up in the general negative feeling. And I am normally a positve person.

So if I don’t abait it I am helping it along.

I was at Border’s looking a titles but there are so many of them. I figured if anyone had a decent book to recommend I wouldn’t have to waste time and money. (see a negative thought  )

One book that has specific cognitive/behavioral therapy techniques for doing exactly what you’re talking about – turning negative thoughts into positive ones – is Feeling Good by David Burns, M.D. It has written exercises that you can do, and there’s a handbook as well. I found it to be very useful in changing some of my more destructive thought patterns. Hmmm…maybe it’s time I dug out my copy and revisited some of those techniques.

One other thing that has been a big help to me is the I Can Do It! 365 Daily Affirmations Page-A-Day Calendar. It sounds silly, but I find that if I start my day off with a reminder to think positive, the attitude will stick with me. I first got the “I Can Do It” calendar for 1999. I liked it, but when 2000 arrived, I got a different Page-A-Day. I couldn’t believe how much I missed my daily affirmation. I’ve gotten that calendar every year since.
