Books of Love

I’m looking for some serious literature that explores the depths to which love can be felt. Ideally, novels or plays. Some that come to mind are Stendhal’s Love, Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera, Hesse’s Narcissus and Goldman, Ovid’s book on love, Tristram & Isolde, Abelard & Heloise, Chaucer’s The Knight’s tale, etc. Ideally, something from Hardy, Maugham…a very good writer. Any suggestions? Anything contemporary that is truly deep? Classics?

Suggestions are much appreciated.

Anna Karenina.

The Feast of Love, by Charles Baxter. Published in 2001. A National Book Award finalist.

It looks like it is being made into a film for release later this year. Morgan Freeman stars.

While only a small portion is devoted to Eros, C.S.Lewis’ “The Four Loves,” is one of my favorites. You dont have to be a Christian to learn things from it.

Thanks. Much appreciated. As would be any others.
