All my life I have considered my self a liberal, but within the last few months I have been questioning if I’m even one.
I’m so far left, I feel that I’m too radical to be considered as an “everyday liberal”. The majority of my friends consider themselves as liberals, and I am a member of several online communities that are left-leaning…even some of them consider my views on life as batshit crazy.
I’ve been doing some research and it appears that I follow a mix of libertarian, anarchist, and hedonist philosophies.
Some examples of what I believe:
-Promiscuity and polyamory are NOT immoral. As long as sex is consensual, “safe” (condoms, bc, etc.), and “faithful” (you’re not cheating behind someone’s back)…it does not matter how many people you fuck, regardless if you are in a relationship or not.
-People should be able to walk around naked if they wish.
-Drugs and alcohol aren’t always evil, and in some cases good for your wellbeing. Alcohol looses up your inhibitions, I believe many people in society are too uptight, and within moderation its use can be a good thing. Drugs like pot and shrooms are known to increase creativity in some people.
-Spanking your children after a certain age will do more harm than good.
-The less the goverment interfere with our lives the better. I was pissy all last weekend because I was unable to play with fireworks in my back yard without fearing that the cops would come by, because they are illegal in many places.
-We all are ultimately self-interested, and in some ways I believe this benefits society. I actually do remember reading this theory somewhere, I forgot where, I just remember agreeing with the theory.
I believe the things I believe because of life experience, but I want to back up those beliefs with research or theories created by respected people so I don’t look like some idiotic loon just pulling stuff out of my ass. The problem is that I don’t know where to begin. The only sources I refer to right now is the book Sperm Wars and speeches from TED.
