All I wanted was one book that my last copy got, ahem, destroyed. The epic Pirates: Terror on the High Seas–
From the Caribbean to the South China Sea

A nice $30 book. I try searching Amazon, BN, borders, wordsworth. Nuttin but a few used $40 ones. Try searching Google. Tons of sites selling them. BUT when I click a site EVERY site links back to (surprise) amazon.com. Is there any bookstore that still has this book???
BookFinder.com is my favorite book meta-search engine.
Plugging in the author and title I get 2 hits (and two duplicates).
Each is one of those $40 used books you mentioned, though. And when I go to Amazon it does not list it at $30, says that it is out of print, and just refers you to used for $40.
Since BookFinder searches all the major new book sites, there is little probability that the book is out there new. It is an obscure 1996 title, after all.
So why not used if you want it that badly?
Mainly, I still have my copy but i swear every time I try to read it i get sick. Like physically ill within a day. I forget about it until a few months later when I start reading teh book again. Of course I just sound reeeeallllyyy crazy right now.
Here’s a used copy at Powell’s (the best brick-and-mortar bookstore in the English-speaking world–Foyles not withstanding).
Oops. Similar title; wrong book.
Nevermind.
My daughter works at a used book store. They have a business arrangement with Amazon, and in fact I think that Amazon actually helps them stay in business. I know that sometimes my daughter will come home and tell me that they did almost nothing in the store itself, but they sold quite a bit online.
They also will occasionally list books on Ebay, but that’s not very often.
