I’m watching the two guys he quarantined with. Come on, no way they were not in on it and understood. No way. He did not randomly walk up to that guy coming out of a party store and hit the jackpot of Q-anon nutzos.
those guys were likely not the first guys he found in that town. All the people who turn him down don’t make the movie. Last movie he put the cut sections on the DVD and some of them are very funny too. One was a trip to an animal shelter and said he wanted a dog to eat.
I found “Borat 2” to be intermittently amusing. But yes, there is a fair amount of “punching down” - pranking ordinary people - which is more cringe than comedy. And the setups before the pranks sometimes stretch out too long.
Above all, though, what has made Sacha Baron Cohen’s pranks so funny is, in large part, the surprise element… and after the first “Borat,” “Bruno,” and “Who is America?” it’s become very hard to surprise us viewers.
We’ll always have “Ali G” though. I’ve never laughed at anything as hard in my life!
The “daughter” was at the White House near Trump and shook hands with Don Jr
The quarantine duo are in Washington state- both by accent and the area codes all around the background. Additionally, Borat was famously at a Republican/NRA rally in Washington state in front of the capitol in Olympia which made it in the movie too.
I hate to defend Giuliani, but he had no reason to believe Tutar was anything other than a young, but adult, reporter. His behavior was still widely idiotic & unwise.
Yes, and I am 100% against him, but I don’t think he looked too bad in the movie. I mean, bad, but not horrifying. If she had said she was a 17 year-old aspiring reporter and she landed a big interview…he would have looked much worse.
I…kind of think he did look like he was tucking in his shirt. Cohen claims they knew it was bad…but I think it wasn’t as bad as the movie wants it to look.
Me too. I hate the guy, but it did look like he was tucking in his shirt. But I do think the position he assumed to do it suggested a comfort level that wasn’t what one would expect considering that the young woman in the room with him was a stranger. My take is that he thought things were going to happen. Also revealing that when Borat comes into the room G’s reaction doesn’t suggest innocent person simply tucking in his shirt.
No he wasn’t twiddling his dick, but he looks like a sleazeball caught in the act.
I started watching the sequel. It’s really bad, weak, the occasional laugh is pummeled to death by utter stupidity and intentional offensiveness, not presented for laughs, pretty much just farting all over his own film. That’s just my opinion, if you like this movie then good for you, but I doubt I’ll ever watch the second half of it.
Watched it last night. My wife and I laughed quite a bit throughout, but at the conclusion, she asked, “What’d you think?” and I said, “It was ok,” and she agreed. Nothing special. The Rudy part was much overhyped, and I hate to defend that turd, but if what they showed was the worst of it, I didn’t really see anything all that shocking.
One of the most damning things in it is just the clip of Mike Pence saying that the Covid-19 “risk to American people is low” and even with it being low, “we’re ready for anything”.
Cringeworthy.
In his own peculiar way, Sacha Baron Cohen can be something of a comedic genius, and his shameless approach (or maybe “reckless” is a better word) to what he’s willing to put himself through to pull off a prank certainly makes him unique. But what I find is that he works best in small doses. Some of the short skits that I’ve seen with Borat, Ali G, or Bruno have been enormously funny. The guy really does have comedic talent and his ability to improvise is terrific, even if some of it is a bit formulaic. It’s a challenge to pack this stuff into a coherent feature-length movie, though.
I made it through about five minutes before boredom took over.
I’m not saying it is amazing, but I think you’ve got to give it more of a shot than 5 minutes.
My kid and I watched (in my case rewatched) the first one last night.
It’s interesting how I misremembered it. My recollection of it was largely of Cohen getting people to say horrible, horrible things. But really, there wasn’t that much of that, only a few really significant examples. Most of the movie was fun at the expense of Borat himself, who is by far the most horrible character in the film.
First one was better but his sidekick is way more attractive in this one.
I don’t think he will ever match the first movie scene with him and the sidekick naked and end up in a convention in the hotel.
Can’t blame him for wanting to move on to other projects
