Border.zip attachment?

Twice in the past couple of days, I’ve received an e-mail with the “border.zip” attachment. I opened one e-mail (which had nothing in the body), BUT DID NOT download the attachment. I do not recognize either sender. The first one had an attachment “ycjy.zip” with the word “border” in the subject line.

Are these types of the Klez virus?

IIRC Klez usually sends files with extensions like .bat, .exe, .pif or .scr. The message you received still sounds very ishy though, so you were smart not to dowload the attachment.

Klez and a couple fo the similar viruses also use some random words as the subject line. Someone who has one of our business e-address keeps inadvertantly sending us the Klez virus and we keep getting the subject" “language.”

We use neither Outlook (a.k.a “Look out!”), we are Mac based and we’ve got anti-virus software up the wazoo. We’ve never had an infected computer, but we see the Klez virus show up a lot. It’s getting annoying.

I get this or that virus sent to me all the time. I usually delete any message with an attachment unless I’m expecting something.

It is also possible that it could be some hacker trying to setup some sort of remote control program on your pc so he could use it for hacking other computers (Something like BackOrifice).

You are doing great by just deleting the messages and not opening the attachments.

I rarely get e-mails that have attachments unless I set it up in advance (friends sending pictures, files, etc). In the 10 years or so that I’ve been on the Net, I have only gotten one virus (I don’t recall which) and it was quickly removed without damage.
