As the title says, I’m leaving after lunch Friday. Don’t bother posting after that, I don’t plan ahead.

What’s good on 6th street?

Any late night SD’s want to suggest a place.

I’ll probably stay at the Sheraton; any better place to stay?

Well, if you mean Austin, MN (a.k.a. SPAM-Town USA) then I might be able to help you. Something tells me, however, that that’s not what you had in mind. :slight_smile:

The Alamo is the obvious place to go And why not stop somewhere on Town lake? Just a few blocks from 6th st?

For bars, I like Lovejoy’s, which is just off of 6th on Neches. It’s kind of a seedy place. I’d guess the tattoo to patron ratio is >= 1.

But just wander around 6th and see what strikes you.

Also try Chuy’s, you may be able to buy a Bush a drink.

  • If you can swing it, the Driskill hotel is the place to be. The Austin Motel is ever-so-hip; SRV stayed there, now inhabited by the unseemly likes of Matthew McConaughey, Sanrda Bullock, et al.
  • On some Sunday mornings, they get a cool live bluegrass thing going at Artz Rib House. Runs through lunch. GREAT BBQ; it’s a fantastic place to go after a looong Saturday night
  • the Saxon Pub is an old-school blues joint, if that’s your scene
  • as far as 6th street goes, it’s not that big, and it’s pretty much a normal college-bar scene. Go down there early (7:00p) and walk it from one end to the other; you’ll get the feel in no time
  • the omnipresent Austin Chronicle does a great job of capturing everything that’s going on. Grab a copy and you’re off to the races. What a great town…
