Boring, sad head of hair...

My hair is very very straight, pretty long- almost to my butt and pretty much all one length (no bangs or anything). I never do anything to it, because 1- I’m lazy 2-I have no idea what I would do. I dont want to cut it but I wouldnt mind a different way of wearing it. Mostly I just leave it down or up in a clip, and alot of times I dont really care but…

Sometimes its boring!!!

Anyone with the same problem?? Any neat-o hairstyle ideas that I could play around with??

Just wanna bitch about your hair with me, whatever style you have???

Lets here it!

I have the same hair as you, and used to have the same style. Straight, silky, lank. I’d like to wear it short, but I wouldn’t look so much Audrey Hepburn as Alfalfa. Soooo, I have it cut just-below shoulderlength, with wispy bangs. Very versatile:

I can wear it down, with a little flip;

I can put the sides back with combs;

I can (and usually do) pin it up into a loose French twist (think Tippi Hedren before the birds got her);

I could do a ponytail if I were 20 years younger.

My hair is straight and silky, and past my hips. I wear it in a bun almost every day. Here’s what to do to make a bun that really stays up: put it in a ponytail with a nice, new, springy hair elastic. Now twist it into a rope. Tie the rope in a knot, pulling it tight against your head. Now re-twist what is left, and twirl it around the base of the knot, tucking the ends in. Secure it with hair sticks or really-really-big hairpins (I have a batch from The Vermont Country Store), making sure the ends of them are under the elastic. Voila. Oughta stay up all day.

I also have longish hair-- red - almost to my butt.
I always wear it in a pony tail. I am a SAHM, so it’s not necessary to do anything with it.
Today after I got out of the shower, I seriously entertained getting it cut and donating to locks of love.

I have the dreaded ‘wavy’ hair. I keep it short… very short. It hasn’t been to my shoulders (except briefly in high school) since I was seven.

It’s kind of a wedge cut right now. It was a modified bowl (lots of chunks and razor cutting) but it’s been growing for a few months and is just a mess now.

Right now it’s got a “I’m parting right down the middle no matter what you say” complex.

I’m getting it chopped for summer. It’s getting hot here, and the back is getting decidedly mullety. Must stop that.

That reminds me, I’ve got to go search for pics to show my stylist.

One style that seems made for you long haired ladies is to french braid your hair on both sides of your face. It uses up a lot of hair and it keeps the hair off of your face. There are books full of techniques in case you’re not skilled at braiding.

You can braid it around wires, too, for that chic and fashionable Pippi Longstocking look.

You . . .you’re . .hey, you’re making fun of me! I’m telling . .

Actually, she might be able to pull in some weak radio stations if the wires are placed just so. . .

You sound hot. I love women with long hair. Don’t change it for the world.

I found out quite by accident that my hair will shape itself into a style as long as I keep it just above shoulder-length. I wash it, towel-dry, and leave it alone till it’s dry (the drive to work will take care of that). Park the car, comb the hair, and I’m set for the day. Since I hate fooling with my hair, this is very handy; I just need to remember to get it cut before it gets too long.

I get tired of it occasionally, but almost any other hairstyle would require more daily attention than I care to give it. Also, it’s very fine and thin, and when I get perms it looks as if something has exploded on my head.

wave I have long (between waist and booty) straight hair as well and am so tired of wearing it the same way. I have tried french-braiding with no luck. Oh what I would give to be able to french-braid my own hair. Every month or so, I will go to a salon and have it braided.

I also have problems with clips and hairpins not wanting to stay in my hair. I have a draw filled with probably over 50 clips that failed me.

You could always braid your hair into a crown or something.

I like to put my hair in a pony tail gathered at the nape of my neck in a looser elastic scrunchee usually, if I don’t wear it down.

I’ll “flashback” to the 90’s at times when I want my hair off my face, but also want it loose. I take the part that is in my face, pull it back into a pony tail or braid, leave the rest in a loose fall down my back, and accessorize according to outfit. Sometimes I use a pretty barrette, sometimes a silk or satin bow or a ribbon/scarf. I have a several matte black dragonfly bobbypins accented with rhinestones I use if I’m being fancy. It looks nice, is out of my face etc.

Other times I’ll use an “ouchless” rubberband to fasten my hair, then braid it. (So with luck it will stay in the braid for a while at least without needing to be redone.) Every 3rd or 4th “knot” (about 4 to 6 inches) I’ll put in a colorful rubberband or whimisical (I have some colorful 70’s kid plastic balls I like to use, sort of like a businessman with a Mickey Mouse watch.) accessory, leaving about a 4 to 6 inch bit unbraided. This is only if I’m feeling playful, maybe for a day at the park.

Whatever you do, accessories of the lack of them can make or break a hairdo. Sometimes there are too many, and that’s just as bad as none. Play with it, find some ornaments that please you, and use them. :slight_smile: I don’t have many really nice ornaments, but I keep my eyes open if I am in the mall, I got my dragonfly rhinestone bobbypins on clearance that way.

Here are some links to places that have nice hair ornaments. I’d love the white bronze dragons barrette from here.

I just found this site, definitely bookmarking it. I’d love to have some of the barrette and ponytail holders from there. sigh

Also just found this one. Some of those aren’t too flashy, and could be used as a single piece of jewelry for an outfit. Like this one for example.

Hairstyles from the previous site.

Some of these are quite affordable, some would be nice gifts.

Pewter or silver plated inexpensive celtic hair ornaments.

This site has vintage style Victorian hair jewelry.
