Boromir leaves the Fellowship rather than betray Frodo. What happens?

Um, yes…but so what? If Boromir has confessed his temptation, understood the disastrous implications, and declared that he’s leaving the Fellowship, that is what he WANTS to happen.

I thought that was implicit in the OP but maybe not.

I don’t think the house arrest need last as long as you’re imagining. It’d be better to hold him back a week or so after the [del]Eight[/del] Seven Walkers leave and then given him some elves to assist him as he makes his way back home. And that would be genuine, not euphemistic, assistance, as he’s demonstrated his probity already.

Chronos: The Fellowship would not have gone on all to Mordor at once. At the end of FoTR, Aragon mentioned that his plan was for Frodo, Sam, Gimli, and himself to go to Mordort while everyone else headed for Gondor.
