Prior to the aforementioned “The Rookie” I had only head it in relation to firemen. One of Station 51’s dogs was named “Boot”.
The other roll-eyes for me was when Bosch said that the corpsman was “KIA” and his sidekick says “KIA?” (as in "what’s that?) and Bosch explains that it’s “killed in action”. Is there anybody alive who needs that sort of exposition? Is someone going to think it’s a reference to the car manufacturer?
To me the implication was that his geeky hipster pal was too young and too into his special interests to understand a common term like that.
I read on a board somewhere recently (maybe Reddit) where someone made a reference to President JFK and a (self-admitted) young poster asked, “What happened to him?”
Makes me sigh heavily and mourn our inadequate education system.
They don’t want anyone teaching CAT (critical acronym theory) to our children. WSTOTC?
Well, I just finished episode 8 of season 1. If the IMDB is to be believed, there will ultimately be 10 episodes in season 1.
At the end of ep 8, virtually every one of approx 452 million story lines was left open and unresolved. And in the last minute of the episode, a new player entered the stage. I hope everything gets tied up by the end of the season, 'cause it will probably be another year or two before we get season 2.
Overall, however, a good procedural. I’ll watch them all.
Season 1 was the worst. They tried to pack in three books of material in ten episodes, and they didn’t even bother to keep the books’ plot details.
If you read the books, you’ll be annoyed. If you didn’t, you’ll be befuddled.
We ARE talking about the NEW Bosch: Legacy, right? Because you said:
My bold. All I have access to is the first eight episodes of season one of “Legacy.”
There definitely are way too many characters and way too many subplots. But I still love the show.
[Emily Litella] never mind.
Yeah, but it was the sister, who conceivably may not know the proper terminology, making the gaffes. So I’ll allow it.
There is something about the Maddie character that really rubs me the wrong way, and it is worse now than it was in the original Bosch. She is just unpleasant to watch.
mmm
Have y’all watched the last two episodes to drop, “Cat Got a Name?” and “Always/All ways”?
Is that it for season 1? Surely not! Heckuva cliffhanger at the end.
I don’t like the Maddie character much either. In fact, I don’t like it when families and personal lives get dragged in, but that’s the rule now and has been for years. But her hardass “that’s not our job” partner is even more annoying.
My opinion- spoiler:
The guy who is supposed to have died is still alive, and he’s the one who has been following the daughter around. I’m too lazy to look up the characters’ names. After all, his picture was taken wearing some other guy’s shirt, right? This will certainly wrap up in season 1, won’t it?
ETA: looking at the IMDB, apparently that is it for season 1. Sigh.
that was my first thought when they showed him wearing his friends shirt is how do we know for sure who died in Nam.
I was curious about the conversation about him going to visit his girlfriend in San Diego and how tight the security was around the base. I live near a Navy base in TN and during it’s heyday, the sailors were around town constantly. Now i dint know any or the sailors personally but girls I went to high school with were dating guys from the base. so not only pretty easy to get off base but dating underage girls as well. Late '70s so maybe things were different then.
Just finished Season One. Multiple spoilers below.
I’m a big fan of the original Bosch series, but Legacy really let me down. Way too many storylines crammed into 10 episodes. It became tiresome trying to keep them all straight, not to mention how unfocused, scattered, and, ultimately, unresolved it all appeared.
I felt like I was playing whack-a-mole with the plotlines. Look, there’s an earthquake. Now a rapist. Don’t forget about the murdered physician. And a rookie cop who is being hazed. Wait, what about the Russian mafia? Now we have a professional hitwoman. And a dying billionaire with a missing heir. Oh, now that’s a murder mystery too. The butler did it. And that will is sketchy. But don’t forget about the innocent girl shot by a cop. Hold on, wasn’t there a prison murder too?
Also, not enough Crate. Not enough Barrel.
mmm
I agree with every word you wrote. The professional hitwoman qualified as jumping the shark. And none of the plotlines got wrapped up, did they?
But I’ll keep watching it. And probably bitching about it, too.
They’ve jammed in every possible cop show cliche. And the capper is now we’ll see Bosch as Liam Neeson, the avenging daddy rescuing his daughter. BOR-ing. Plus we have a what - 60-year-old man? - fighting off a professional killer and kicking in doors and generally being a gray-beard badass. It’s not plausible and it’s just lazy writing, IMO.
