Bosda Starts The Traditional "Alone For Xmas" Thread.

I did that once. They actually had too many volunteers. So many they didn’t even really know what to do with them.

Made me feel bad that that was the only day of the year I’d come down to help out when I’d bet they could have used that help on the other 364 days.

However, the county animal shelter where I did go into and volunteer yesterday did not have the problem of too many volunteers as I was the only volunteer there.

To me Hungry Man turkey dinners are a real treat. And, yes, I’ve had them for Christmas dinner since I do consider them to be a treat. A turkey dinner with fixings and I don’t have to do the work or the dishes!

Yup, I was alone for Christmas, except for the critters. I went to see the new Star Wars, came home and popped a little ham in the oven with a baked sweet tater. Watched some NetFlix & Hulu. I am just on the tail-end of a sinus infection and napped a lot with my little Papillon Bunny on my chest, wrapped up in a fuzzy blankie. Had I not spoken to the ticket taker & concession stand girl, I wouldn’t have heard a live person’s voice.

Christmas is not my favorite time of year.

I was home alone on Christmas day, apart from the cats. Since it was warm but foggy and/or rainy all day, I stayed in, drank tea and ate many of my gift chocolates, and watched Christmas-related murder mysteries on DVD: three Sherlock Holmeses, two Poirots, a Midsommer Murder, a Foyle’s War, and a Nero Wolfe. About as cozy a holiday as one could manage.

That does suck. However, as you stated, there are other places that do need volunteers.

They could have made more soup.

For fucks sake people it’s Christmas get yourself a goddamned steak. I had two damn steaks on Christmas. One for breakfast and then Christmas and lunch with the fam and another damn steak for dinner. It was fantastic and delicious. Even if you’re alone you gotta Treat Yo Self!

I live in a condo and am not allowed to have a pet. But I do have a TV and a Kindle and a microwave oven. I nuked a sweet potato and ate it along with a slice of ham. Being alone at Christmas is nothing new; it’s just another day so far as I can tell.

Or as an entree?

We Serve the Homeless.

Actually, they roasted whole turkeys. Surprised me.

I was expecting them to serve whatever part of a turkey that my school used to serve. I think it might have been leftover turkey parts pressed together as every piece looked the same. It was the turkey version of Pringles potato chips.

But they had roasted multiple whole turkeys with all the trimmings — all of which looked made from scratch. Actually, it was a better Christmas dinner than my mother used to make or I ever made as we both went the pre-packaged, convenience food route for a lot of X-mas dinner.

Even if I ate beef, I couldn’t afford steak. That’s why the Hungry Man turkey dinner is a real treat to me — it’s far more than I normally spend on a single meal.
