Boss RC-30: problem using .WAV files

I’m just getting into looping. I’m getting an unsupported file error (UF on the display) from my RC-30.

This answer (from Sweetwater) seems convincing:

→ If you’re sure you’ve got a 16-bit .WAV file at a 44.1kHz sample rate, and it still won’t import into the RC-3 or RC-30, then the file may have embedded metadata, or “tags,” that are causing the error.

However, I have been unable to successfully implement their suggested solution:

→ You can strip this extra information from the file by converting it to Apple Lossless or FLAC format. After removing the information, convert that file back to .WAV. You can use various free programs to perform this conversion.

I tried a couple of free conversion programs–one downloaded, one online–and I’m still getting the “unsupported file” error.

Can anyone help a poor, ignorant, aging guitarist?

Is that the only file format it understands and it has to be at that exact sample rate and no metadata…? Then the solution is, get yourself a nice MPC

But, seriously, download ffmpeg for your operating system. It includes a utility called ffprobe. Run that on your sample file and it will tell you exactly what it is.
