"Bother", said Quartz as his PC failed

So my main PC went pop this morning. Just froze. All I get when I try to restart it is a flashing blue LED at the front. It flashes very fast. No bleeps, no nothing. I’ve tried changing the CPU and the CPU fan with no success. I’ve removed all cards, hard drives, etc.

It’s a Shuttle SS31T. My usual resources have yet to provide a diagnosis.

Fortunately, it’s all backed up. Unfortunately Windows Home Server assumes you’re restoring to the exact same machine, so I can’t pop the restore CD into a new machine.

Fortunately, I have a spare machine.

Fortunately I have Windows 7 DVDs around; unfortunately, the first one I used was the Windows 7 Beta, which won’t work with GA license keys and has expired anyway. So I get to do the installation all over again! :smack:

This.

Hmmm, my backup is overdue. Doing that today!

I back up 4 days a week. It has saved me huge head aches. I used to think it was too costly to bother with, but I now am glad I did it!

The ‘new’ box is AGP, and has 2x 120 GB drives. The failed box has 250 GB of data. This is going to be fun…

Thanks to WHS my PC gets backed up every night.
