A DQ I guess (nobody specific in mind)
Kit Denton… who later changed his mind and said he thought Morant probably was guilty of war crimes!
When you say, “My fame was at its peak before 1970… but I didn’t actually DO anything newsworthy until after 1970!”, is that your personal opinion, or do you believe most objective observers would say that?
DQ: Last name begins A-M?
IQ: Were you a big outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the '70s and '80s who caught balls by swatting downward with your glove?
Not Dick Dastardly (or Muttley)

#12 is a judgment call, but I’m pretty sure it’s accurate. See, my person was WORLD-famous in the Sixties, but the world had largely forgotten him by the time he actually DID something newsworthy (in the Seventies)
This may be an odd description… but if you figure out what I mean, you’ll guess who the person is quickly.
Oh, as for the Pirates outfielder… Dave Parker?
were you involved in science?
Yes. Well done.
etv78, I think you’ll want to ask a bit more narrow/obscure questions for your IQs (indirect questions). Just a suggestion.
IQ: Are you an actor who, years later, admitted exaggerrating your military service?
IQ: Were you widely mocked for the expense of a project that has since more than paid for itself in insurance savings?
That is, in fact, not who I had in mind, but it fits the wording of my question admirably. Well played.
Hmm… yes, sort of. (Not trying to be cagey, I swear!)

Not Brian Dennehy
Not sure who this is- ask a DQ.
Correct! Damn, you’re good.
IQ: Were you a schlub who looked just like a VIP?
Will you settle for just “Dave” as an answer? (As in the Kevin Kline movie, about a guy who looked just like the President?) I haven’t seen the movie in years, and don’t remember his last name.
IQ: Was an urban myth about you repeated on an episode of MASH*?
etv78: You don’t just get to ask DQ’s if you’re “fishing”. You have to earn a DQ by asking an IQ and stumping the person (in this round, astorian) who’s posing the challenge.
I never watched “MAS*H,” so I don’t know the urban legend.
Ask a DQ.
Dufferin ‘Duff’ Roblin, the late premier of the province of Manitoba, is probably most famous for the building of the Red River Floodway, which diverts water from south of Winnipeg, Manitoba’s capitol and largest city, to the east and then the north of the city into the Red River just south of Lake Winnipeg. At the time, the project was criticized for being too expensive (although it was brought in on time and under budget) and was mockingly referred to as ‘Duff’s Ditch.’ However, it has saved the city from destructive flooding many times since its completion in the mid-1960’s.
DQ: Is your fame partly based on any military exploits?
DQ: Are you arguably one of the first “heavy metal” guitarists?
IQ: Did you famously quip that the reason most rock critics like Elvis Costello was that most rock critics look like Elvis Costello?
