We’ve eliminated cabinet and the diplomatic corps - what’s left? Other chiefs of staff? An interesting little problem to chew on…
With the dates we’ve got, this person’s military service could have been in any of WWI, WWII, the Korean War or even Vietnam, and it doesn’t sound like it’s a key point to recognizing this person in any case. Hmph. Off to do some dishes and cogitate.

Never heard of Grapelli. I hadn’t known Galbraith was born in Canada - interesting! A college friend of mine served as a research assistant for him, and found him to be a very smart and courtly old gentleman.
