Botticelli - January 2013

Well, this round seems to have stalled. Let’s say, if the three remaining DQs haven’t all been earned, asked and answered, and everyone eligible hasn’t then asked their “Are you [firstname][lastname]?” questions, by noon Fri. EST, I’ll reveal the answer and start the next round.

I have at least one DQ that I haven’t used yet, if anybody else wants it…

nevermind

I got nuthin’. I’m looking forward to the start of the next round.

I want to try one DQ just to clarify something; I’m taking the response to #12 as meaning this person did serve in the military. Perhaps knowing which conflict/at what time might help…

DQ - Although you say you are not known primarily as a military figure, did you serve in any branch of the US military at any rank during the Vietnam War?

All I did was repeat Enginerd’s wording of that particular DQ, but in any event…

G.

  1. Real
  2. Male
  3. Dead
  4. American
  5. Not involved in the creative arts
  6. Died after 1950
  7. Born before 1950
  8. Known as a political/military figure
  9. G is the initial letter of my last name
  10. Not an elected official
  11. Not a Cabinet secretary
  12. Not known primarily as a military figure
  13. Not a diplomat
  14. Not born east of the Mississippi
  15. Died after 1980
  16. Not a member of the U.S. judiciary
  17. Died before 1999
  18. Did not serve in any branch of the U.S. military at any rank during the Vietnam War

I am officially stumped - I’m looking forward to finding out who this is!

If you want to kill it now instead of waiting until Friday, that’s fine with me…

Yeah, I’m totally buffaloed as well - as I said before, I think any American kid with a passing mark in grade 9 ‘Civics’ would be a better source of ideas than I am at the moment.

Since all the regular players seem stumped, I’ll just go ahead and reveal the answer now: it’s political polling trailblazer

George Gallup

Next round to start in a day or so.

My hat is off to you - what a well considered choice. World famous, household name and such an unusual profession that I’ve no idea how I could have got there with our usual occupation questions. Well deserved win, Elendil’s Heir!!

Indeed - well played, EH!

8 is VERY misleading! His job was a pollster, not lawmaker.

I don’t think it was misleading at all. “Political figure” covers a lot of territory - government officials, sure, but also commentators, political journalists, and, yes, pollsters.

I would consider all those to be media figures, not political figures.

Well, they’re both. If I’d said that the foremost political pollster of his day, a man whose name became synonymous with campaign polling, wasn’t a “political figure,” it would’ve been pretty misleading to you all.

And as I said in post 344,

Still disagree strongly.

However, at least we can finally end this “January 2013” thread.

In fact, I think I’ll just start the next round on Friday, so it’ll be the March thread.

Good one, Elendil’s Heir! And thanks for letting us know who the person was finally.
