Botticelli - July 2015

Helen Gurley Brown.
John-John Kennedy’s mother was Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.
DQ1: Known for sports?
DQ2: Born east of the Mississippi?
Three DQs reserved.

As William Manchester noted, it’s a myth that JFK Jr. was called “John-John.” His father once, in calling him from another room, quickly repeated his name. A reporter, overhearing it, mistakenly reported it as the boy’s nickname.

Guessing time. Everybody should have a DQ available for guessing. I’m not offering any bonus hints this time, since they’ll be huge giveaways. Until tomorrow afternoon, or earlier.

 1. Babe Didrikson Zaharias

And I’m stumped. I can’t even imagine what she’s famous for. Thinking out loud… Could it be something in the Guinness book of world records? Fastest woman? First woman to climb Mt Everest?

I’ll just surrender now.

I’m betting we’d all know this person if we’d just asked better DQs and narrowed the field of endeavor down a bit (Yes, I said “we,” because my questions were pretty useless at narrowing the field down, too).

Previous IQs:

Is your son Christopher a noted American writer? - Pat Buckley.
Were you a Confederate female spy? - Belle Boyd.
Have you played a concierge, a network executive, an overzealous prosecutor and a computer genius? - Bob Balaban, in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Seinfeld, Absence of Malice and 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

Still drawing a blank on this person. Think think think…

I’m drawing a blank as well.

I am Tammy Faye Bakker.

Bakker was an American Christian singer, evangelist, entrepreneur, author, talk show host, and television personality. She was married from 1961 to 1992 to televangelist, and later convicted felon, Jim Bakker. She co-hosted with him on The PTL Club (1976–1987). She was a participant in the 2004 season of the reality show The Surreal Life.

Next letter is C.

Hmmm.

Tammy Faye Bakker is a good name for Botticelli, but I would never have said that she was “Known for the arts, but not most famous for it,” nor that her “Beauty is a matter of debate, but she has inspired others to copy her,” nor that she was “Best known for multiple incidents.” She was known, I would’ve said, for a single incident - her husband’s fall from televangelistic grace.

She DID inspire a lot of imitators… mostly drag queens!

Okay, as I said earlier, she’s plenty famous. I just didn’t do my part to narrow her down.
IQ1) Were you known as The Pathfinder’s Pathfinder?

IQ2) Did a messy divorce ruin your plans to buy the Minnesota Vikings?

IQ3) Are you an Italian immigrant who helped Mac get back at the bully who kicked sand on him?

Tammy Faye! Well done. I associate her with NC, so the clues about west of Miss. and north of M-D line were never going to help. (Though I do see that she was from Minnesota.)

I don’t think I’ve ever been helped by knowing if someone was born “west of the Mississippi” or “north of the Mason-Dixon line”. West of the Rhine, yes.
IQs:

 1. Could you make me a man in seven days?
 2. Did you say “Big book, big evil”?
 3. Were you aka Khufu?

She’s recorded albums, danced and performed, so she’s known for the arts. She’s considered either beautiful or hideous, depending on your tastes. She hosted a TV show that aired in front of millions, she was involved in the Heritage USA scandal, she appeared on reality TV, and certainly grabbed the spotlight whenever possible, so known for multiple incidents. I felt I was accurate in my answers for these reasons.

Her birthplace looked to be directly north of the Mississippi. I didn’t realize that until I looked at a map. That’s why I said “not born east of the Mississippi.” Sometimes these anomalies pop up without any foreknowledge. One time I had Jesse Ventura as the mystery guest, and he was born in Minneapolis, which the Mississippi flows through.

dunno x2, not Charles Atlas

not Charles Atlas, dunno, not Cheops(?)
