Botticelli - June 2012

Ichabod Crane / Iago.
Will pend my 2 DQ’s for a bit.

Iago despised Othello, not “the melancholy Dane,” Hamlet, right?
My question “Did a writer named after a U.S. President immortalize you?” was also about Ichabod Crane.

I was wondering if that was a reference to Iago’s lines while tricking Cassio into drinking too much…

Act II, sc. 3

* Iago. I learned it in England, where, indeed, they are
most potent in potting: your Dane, your German, and
  your swag-bellied Hollander—Drink, ho!—are nothing
  to your English.

* Cassio. Is your Englishman so expert in his drinking?

* Iago. Why, he drinks you, with facility, your Dane dead
drunk; he sweats not to overthrow your Almain; he
gives your Hollander a vomit, ere the next pottle
  can be filled.

I am not Irene Ryan, who played Granny on The Beverly Hillbillies. No idea on the other two, so 2 DQs.

3 DQs. Although I bet I’m going to smack myself over the head about the Titanic couple.

  1. Not Inigo Montoya.

  2. DQ

  3. I’m not Isadora Duncan? Otherwise a DQ.

  1. I’m not Idi Amin.
  2. No idea - a DQ.

DQ Summary

  1. I am a man.
  2. I am a fictional character.
  3. I am not known for any contribution to The Arts.
  4. My last name begins with ‘I’.
  5. I am an American creation.
  6. Yes, even though fictional, I would be alive as of 2012. Clarifying: (& Huge Hint)I don’t have a generally known single creator, so etv78’s question can’t be answered.
  7. Not involved in politics.
  8. Not a character from literature.
  9. I do not appear in a single work of fiction (Clarifying& Huge Hint 2 - although my appearances can be said to form a connected series, although many people would not call those appearances ‘fiction’.)
  10. My citizenship is never specifically mentioned, but my appearances were in the USA, so it is implied (by me anyway) that I am a US citizen.
  11. Not really associated with the East Coast, or with any specific section of the country.(Huge Hint 3 - this lack of specificity to my location is specifically designed by my creators to be part of the character’s gestalt.) (I hope I used gestalt correctly…)

I’m heading out of town this afternoon, so it may be Sunday evening before I get back.

Ivan Boesky.

DQ: Are you a supernatural character?

The Disney collaborator was Ub Iwerks. The Titanic couple were Isidore and Ida Straus.

DQ: Are you known for your work in science?
DQ: Hero or villain?

I’ll reserve my last DQ for now.

Okay, we’d better get this one soon, then!

IQ1: Did you play Sue Snell in the 1976 movie Carrie?

IQ2: Are you a gossipy recurring character on the TV show Glee?

IQ3: Did you write the theme song for the cat who won’t cop out when there’s danger all about?

Not who I was thinking of, so I’ll rephrase: Were you a noted comic actress on Fifties TV?
Ira Allen, brother of Ethan.
Ira Glass, host of NPR’s This American Life.

DQs:

Are you best known as a TV character?
Were you created since 1970?

And two more IQs:

Do you appear on a show-within-a-show on Sunday nights?
Did your character smoke a cigar and tempt a captain?

Nitpick: Isidor (no “e”) and Ida Strauss (second “s”).

Miss this? (can’t think of IQ to get same info)

Nope - here’s your answer.

Very helpful Enginerd! I missed THAT.

I’m back!

  14. I’m a hero!!! (Disclaimer: This statement is a lie.)
  15. I appeared on commercial primetime television, although not in any sort of regularly scheduled shows.
  16. I have been created since 1970.

Hmm, 3 DQs.

OK, I’m not Imogene Coca either.

2 DQs for the other two questions.

IQ1 was looking for Amy Irving, and IQ2 was looking for Jacob Ben Israel. As for IQ3, it was Isaac Hayes, who wrote the “Theme from Shaft.”

I’ll hang on to those DQs for a little while.

  1. Inigo Montoya, indeed.

  2. David McCallum’s character from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was a Russian spy named Ilya Kuryakin, who was teamed up with Robert Vaughn’s Napoleon Solo.

  3. I’m afraid Isadora Duncan, while being a huge influence on Diagalev’s ‘Ballet Russes’, was never a composer. I was after Igor Stravinsky, whose ballets ‘Petrushka’, ‘The Firebird’ and ‘The Rite of Spring’ were all composed specifically for Diagalev’s company.

I’ll save one of those DQs for now. However, I would like to know -

DQ - Are you a character who originally appeared in comics?

IQ: Are you a pitchman for a certain Japanese car manufacturer, whose last name is the same as the manufacturer’s?

I am not Joe Isuzu.
He’s lying, he IS Joe Isuzu.
Congratulations Spoons!

Woo-hoo! Thanks, Wargamer–that was a fun one!

Give me a little time to think of the next one, and we’ll be off again.

I was worried it might be too obscure, since he was a commercial pitchman, so I did try to be a little more forthcoming in answering the DQs. I’m glad you enjoyed it, I thought it might be an interesting character to put forth.

Way to go, Spoons!

Yes, Imogene Coca.
Itchy, from The Itchy & Scratchy Show on The Simpsons.
Actress/model Iman played an alien shapeshifter who flirted with Kirk in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
