Botticelli, May 2011

That is the spike, but Harrison wouldn’t be on it, as it was driven in 1870. Two of the Big Four in that context had ‘H’ names, and one is Mark Hopkins.

I’ll have to think about a DQ for a bit, as we’re near the last few. (If this means that someone else gets to ask the last question before I get mine in, that’s fine. I don’t want to hold up the game).

I was actually going for Horatio Sanz! But MAYBE Hope Davis works too.

IQ: Did you play the title character in “The Big Lebowski”?

  1. Born after 100 BCE
  2. Male
  3. Not the leader/monarch of a nation or empire
  4. American
  5. Dead
  6. Not celebrated for accomplishments in the arts (visual arts, music, literature, etc.)
  7. Not born in the 20th century
  8. Not famous in the fields of science or technology
  9. Did not die between Jan. 1, 1800 and Jan. 1, 1900
  10. Invented something, but not best known for that
  11. Nonfictional
  12. Born in the 19th century
  13. Not known for wartime accomplishments
  14. Not famous for sporting accomplishments
  15. Not known for holding a government/political office
  16. Not generally regarded as a villain/bad guy
  17. Did not die between Jan. 1, 1900 and Jan. 1, 1950
  18. Not famous for either journalism or medicine

No, I’m not the guy who’s not Jeff Bridges.

Seriously. I can see that actor very clearly in my mind’s eye, but I don’t know his name. Ask a DQ.

DQ: Is your invention something that is still commonly used today?

Before this thread’s game has completed and all participants (who may be potential owners of the next iteration) have left, let me post the results of two searches on the terms “botticelli” and “boticelli” in the titles, for the sake of identifying/numbering the next one.

Might be useful in the future for reference.

Sorry I overlooked this earlier.

No, I’m not Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Hmmm. Hard to answer. I don’t want to mislead anyone. Could you rephrase, or clarify?

Are you a performer who had a short story ghost-written for you by a writer whose fame has by now possibly surpassed your own?

Okay, I’ll try to specify the “common use” definition. If it’s something that only a few people in a field use, but still might be used by them, even if there are newer inventions, say “yes” (example: vacuum tube, a specific pigment of oil paint, aspirin). I’d say “No” if it’s been superseded - “no” examples might be a slide rule, polio inoculation [as opposed to vaccine]. If it’s something that, in its time was widely used but is obsolete or now only used by a handful of people, then “no” (e.g. the typewriter, rotary phone).

Your call if it’s somewhere in between (e.g. out of fashion but still usable, or it’s evolved into a nearly unrecognizable form).
I don’t want to try and tease too much out of one question. But outside of nationality and gender, this invention angle seems to be the only real positive hit we have, so I’m trying to work something out of it.

IQ: Did you found a chain of hotels?

Ooh, one more, please, then I’ll stop. IQ: Are you an aptly named judge?

Well, I was thinking of Henry Miller - the lover of Anias Nin, who authored ‘The Little Birds’, but HdT-L certainly was a leading light of the age.

IQ: Did you criticize a state of nature as nasty, poor, brutish, and short?

David Huddleston played the BIG Jeffrey Lebowski.

DQ: Are you white/Caucasian?

IQ: Were you buried in your Village People biker gear?

Dunno. You get the next-to-last DQ.

No, I’m not Conrad Hilton.

No, I’m not the great Learned Hand.
